Nailing it. Couple of highlights and lowlights from tonight. Highlights: Union Old Pro Gose on Cask w/ Kumquats (very nice) Brouwerij West Dog Ate My Homework (Blackberry Saison) Oliver's 21st Century Schizoid Man Buffalo Trace Barrel Aged (9% Black Wheat Ale) Oliver's Set The Controls For The Heart of the Sun Copper Fox Single Malt BA (8% IPA) Union Resonator (Hoppy Wheat Ale) Most intriguing: Oliver's Pink Triangle (4.2% IPA aged in Wild Turkey Barrels with Raspberries) Most Overrated: DC Brau On The Wings Of Armageddon (give me a Double Duckpin anyday) Clunker: Oliver's Stuka Over Stalingrad Makers Mark BA (Imperial Stout, think it was infected, off sour flavor) See all you beer freaks for tomorrow's 12 Percent/Shelton Brothers event, looks like a good one. For those of you wanting to tie one on 3 beers over 16% ABV on draft: 120 min., Bruery Sucre and Bruery BA 5 Golden Rings. Plus I got a bottle of DeProef Ganduvum for $10.
Double Duck is great, but OTWOA out of the can kicks its ass IMO. Didn't know they had Sucre on tap, might have to stop by to get a sample of that!
I've only had OTWOA on tap a couple times, and I wasn't terribly impressed. Will snag a can as soon as I see it though!
Another great week-long event at Max's. Can't wait for Baltimore Beer Week. I had: Bruery Sucre (lots of flavor & my first normal Anniversary beer from them that I've had, the other was Brandy BA Bois) Union Resonator (great, if this is how pale wheats taste, then I might be able to drink "pales") DuClaw Morgazm (I thought this was going to be an IPA, but it was just a blonde, no grapefruit here) Oxbow Freestyle #22 (good saison) Troegs Scratch #139 (good saison) Burley Oak Cloud Nine (another great IPA from them, I really need to try them all side by side) DuClaw Brimstone (great, now I need to try Misery and Repent) Against the Grain Rico Sauvin (great Nelson Sauvin IPA) Off Color Troublesome (interesting gose, that wasn't very salty, balanced by the lacto was my guess) Saint Somewhere Lectio Divina (decent enough) Saint Somewhere Pays Du Soleil (ditto) Evil Twin Porthole (light on the blueberries) Most interesting: Upright Billy the Mountain (PHENOMENAL, BA Old Ale w/ brett, if this wasn't billed as an Old Ale, then you wouldn't know it was one) Ciders: Millstone Gingerroot (probably the best of them all, they are in order of how they tasted) Millstone Hopvine Millstone Peche Cyser Millstone Thistle (eh, it sounded interesting and great, but came out the boring and bland, the least of the four) p.s. I was lucky to get to sample of a few more thanks to friends like @DrBier.
I agree about On The Wings. I've had it a few times (out of the can) both fresh and old and it never stuck out to me, but then I read about people being blown away by it and am very confused. No big deal, I can just get it to those who love it and drink something else.
