If a trade is agreed upon and for one reason or another, before any bottle is shipped a person decides to back out, what is the policy on this? Have almost 90 trades with 100% feedback. Agreed to a trade then found out a week later I received an invite to a release that I thought was sold out. I didn't know they would be sending additional invites. I politely asked trading partner if we could only trade other bottles we agreed on or none at all and he said no. All thoughts welcomed especially from mods. Cheers!!

I think you need to be more specific. What did you offer FT and what were you being sent in return? Generally, if two traders agree to trade (formally, using feedback system on BA), backing out is a "bad" trade in my opinion

How does this invite affect the trade? Were you ISO the beer you'll now be getting at the release? What other agreed-upon beers were involved? More details on this would help provide context, but typically, backing out of a trade after agreeing to it without a damn good reason is looked down upon, certainly not someone I'd like to trade with.

I'm betting Rare Day is involved here?

You owe it to the other guy to follow through at this point. I think this topic kind of reinforces my feelings that pre-trades are a little goofy. Lots can happen in several weeks/months before the beer is in your hands.

Yep rare day. Between my wife and I, we will be purchasing 6 bottles. Was very shocked they have now sent out 4 rounds of email invites when it was supposed to be 1 time. I don't want any bad feedback so I guess I will just be completing trade and having 7 bottles lol

I think that's the right call just to avoid the drama but devils advocate for a moment... If someone asked me to get out of a trade where nobody had purchased any beer and it was just a little bit of a disappointment to me then I'd still totally drop the trade. Why force someone into it if it doesn't hurt me in the end? Not sure if the expanded trade caused the other party to purchase bottles and that's why he's asking you to honor it but if it was just Rare I'd let you walk from it.

The old saying, "Can't have your cake and eat it too" seems fitting for this scenario. Most peeps might let you walk away, but it is an *agreement* that most men would honor. Not calling you out personally, just making a statement.

Is the trade in the system and accepted? If so, then I would go through with the trade - I have agreed to something, so it would make me a bad trader if I backed out

On the flip side, if I was the other guy, and someone backed out of an accepted trade, I would absolutely drop negative feedback. No-one is out beer so it doesn't warrant a bad trader thread, but the negative feedback would be absolutely fair.

I would suspect after over 80 trades you already knew the answer before asking...

What are you giving up for the bottle of Rare?

Some trade partners might understand the situation and let it go, others not so much (and rightfully so) In the event that such a situation came up and your partner was ok with cancelling/modifying the trade it would probably be a good idea to send them a "thanks for understanding" box or very generous extras.

Either way, I'm interested to hear what you were giving up for the Rare? Seems people are wanting the world for a beer that will see national distribution.

This is what happens when you play the pre-trade game, an unintended consequence has bit you in the ass. You agreed to the trade, honor the trade. Personally I would have let you out of the trade, but I don't blame your trading partner one bit for holding you to it.

On a related note, I think pre-trades should be banned here. It just fuels the speculation and auctioning market which this site is making a dent it.

MD and black gold for rare and Madagascar. I as well bought into the previous hype and believe this is quite lopsided. That said I'm not backing out. Also guy said if I have over 80 trades I should know but this is a unique situation. That's why i was asking for feedback

You live by the sword, you die by the sword.

PS. You could have a lot worse problems than an extra Rare.

And there it is... you don't like the deal anymore because you value beer based on bottle count. The trade isn't lopsided at all - MD was $100 for 2 bottles + the 10oz pour at the brewery and all the other stuff; so a bottle of MD is worth about $40.

Black Gold was $20, so all in you are putting up $60 worth of beer, and getting more than $60 back since the Rare alone is $60 - basically you are getting Madagascar for free. Seems like a very fair deal to me.

No, what you were asking for was validation from the community that it was OK to go back on a deal you no longer like... as @jrnyc said - live by the sword, die by the sword. If you want to 'win' trades you have to take the good with the bad.

So glad we are at the stage of trading where we are going to argue that MD is way more of a whalez bro than Rare...
A perfect microcosm of why the trade forums are going downhill :stuck_out_tongue:

Not to pile on, but wasn't it pretty understood that some amount of people, like those entering the lottery living in CA, FL, etc would decline to purchase their tickets and they would be re-lotteried off?
