One further note to my comment from minutes ago.

I'll never just rate a brew without providing review comments.

That's one of my biggest issues with, 'Dumcrapped' is all the users who simply give star ratings and nothing else.

Tell me WHY you think a beer deserved a 2.5, 3.75, 5 ball, etc.

And if you rate a beer as great-to-exceptional (4-5), just don't give me an uninformative comment similar to:

    "It's Top Stuff!" or

    "I like it!"

Because if you think enough of a beer to give it a 4-5 rating, ya obviously enjoyed it immensely.

I have found that beers/photos added counts update overnight here in the US. You should see that the count has increased tomorrow.

I'll save you some time - you just need to look at the All category. It includes everything from that brewery, including inactive and retired.

No way that I know of to note the beer's possible status, and no way to predict that a brewery will bring something back that isn't a regular.

That's a good thing, and you've already listed it on BA.

That's something that will never get fixed. Some new beer drinkers aren't confident enough to use the lingo that most readers might want to see, some drinkers are merely using BA to keep track of their beers, and some are lazy or don't care to take the extra time.

I'm one who rates a beer by giving an across-the-board rating score unless I detect something of the 4 rating factors that I feel is not normal for the style, good or bad. If I change a component score up or down I'll write a reason for that difference. Sometimes I'll reach the 150 character threshold and get points for a review, but that's all that I think is needed. (I'll note here that I never use BA ratings/reviews to help choose a beer, but that doesn't mean that I think reviews are worthless.)

Not using words is the whole point of Untappd. It's there for the quick hit, the pic, and the reward (badges). It's a beer gaming site, not a place for for thoughts and discussion. Let that stuff be over there. I gave up on UT 5-6 years ago, just because of those reasons, and that it was getting annoying.

I just added 11 beers from a brewery that was listed, but had none of their beers on the site.

Just getting warmed up for February 7th & 8th? Maybe we should set a goal of 225,000 and reach that 1-million beers total in the database.

I'm gonna work on chipping away at the overall number, that way on the big weekend, y'all can make a bigger dent.

This is great @PapaGoose03 !! Ive been adding a few from CT breweries, did 13 of em on Monday.

Mods can see the list of recently updated beers, so Im sure there is a backend count somehow.

Adding a beer without drinking it is totally fine. Makes it easier for the next user onBA with that beer to do a review.

Old beers from Closed or defunct breweries , im not sure of fhe value of adding, but it probably doesnt cause a problem. I think there may be a check box for inactive. But that might also be a Mod thing?

Is the date feb 7 and 8 final? Seems like could be a banger of a weekend with folks coming off Dry January.

    Im pumped for this!!

Love this idea. I would caution, assuming no else has yet to do so, that the weekend you're proposing is the weekend of the Super Bowl. Lots of eyes on the game on the night of 2/8 could equate to fewer beers added in those final precious hours of the weekend. Similarly, the following weekend is Valentine's Day, where folks may be doing various romantically-themed activities, not necessarily adding beers. This is all to say that the weekend of 2/24-2/25 might be better. It'll be the dead of winter and folks will have fuck all to do, so why not add some beers to the database?

I don’t think I can commit to a weekend. It depends whether I’m at a brewpub with a number of beers that haven’t already been added.
Today I was at Evil Twin in Dumbo Brooklyn and tried 4 new beers, 3 I could add.

Yeppers, I never use BA ratings to help choose a beer and I most certainly NEVER use 'Dumcrapped' ratings for anything at all & have sermonized to everyone & anyone for years about ignoring the 'Dumcrapped' ratings and paying more attention to Craft Beer & Brewing recognitions & awards of that ilk and other more reputable nature.

I would have mentioned GABF but for Sierra Nevada to get an award for their Pale Ale in the ESB category has me questioning any GABF awards going forward now.

Yeah, I've given up on 'Dumcrapped' a long time ago but since I'm too far down the road (8 years) of rating & reviewing brews on there I'll still keep checking into beers, especially new-to-me ones & then try to transfer my ratings & reviews over here within a day or so.

Since February 1st is a Sunday, the weekend of the 7th & 8th is the first weekend where the two days are in the same month. Plus to have it the previous weekend would catch a bunch of BAers still in dry January on Saturday. The 7th & 8th are my suggested dates and for a good reason that the group agrees is viable, the dates could be moved. We're in a discussion period in this thread right now, so I'm open to alternatives.

The goal for the number of new beers is still open for suggestions. Anybody?

I just saw post #30 from @Providence regarding the Superbowl falling on the 8th. I can't believe I overlooked that. :flushed: But maybe that's why I chose two days (a weekend) to do this so everyone has the flexibility of choosing which of the two days will work best to participate. Plus, entering the new beers doesn't have to be a 'live' time event.

I'm listening to anyone who thinks the Super Bowl is a distraction.

This makes sense to me. And I think you’re right to suggest that having it in the first full weekend post dry January could get a nice bump. Keep it for 2/7-2/8.

The Superb Owl is no distraction, but the Puppy Bowl is.

Maybe move it to the first weekend in March so we can add all the new summer seasonals that'll be coming out?

Yeah, you need to give that show your undivided attention or risk missing something that's a cuteness overload.

Good thought, but we've got a lot of members who are hot to trot with this thing. Can we put a hold on everything until then?

Is March 1st or thereabout considered the trigger for summer beers? I suppose some could be earlier and some later, but it is the season. Many will be new beers and need to be entered in the database.

    Open for further discussion.

All analogies are imperfect, but I'm gonna roll with one anyway:

You know Crazy Horse memorial In South Dakota? They're carving a whole mountain in to a sculpture. They've been working on it since the late 1940's, and they're still working on it. Didn't just to blast it out in a couple years. They keep chipping away at the rock.

One big weekend, fun as it will be, will not gain us a quarter million beers. Just keep hammering away at the rock, one chunk at a time, and we'll gain those adds soon enough.

I wish I had an idea of how many BAers are going to participate. There have been 462 views of this thread and this is the 40th post, so potentially we have 422 who will participate. Enough busy bees will get that mountain carved sooner.
