Often I have beers while out that haven't been entered into BA yet. I never take notes while out, even though I should get into the habit of it, so I go home and want to add a "had." Problem is that when I attempt to add a beer the website tells me that a "review is required" to add a new beer. This is confusing to me because I see beer lists here all the time with zero reviews/hads... So, THIS BEGS THE QUESTION: how does one add a beer without having to review it?

I think those were added either via a full review that was later removed or because someone contacted a site editor/bro to have the beer entered (like via a press announcement or private email).

Yeah there are a lot of beers (local) that I would like to add, I'm just not one for writing an entire review about a beer.

Are you checking the archived beers too? Sometimes they're hidden in there..

No. Because a lot of the breweries down where I live (San Diego County) are too new to even have archived beers.

Interesting. I noticed beers like Founders Panther Cub and KBS Special Reserve were added with no review and wondered if the review to add policy had changed.

Saw the same thing with FFF Cat Moves and BA Black Inteligencer

I would like to be able to do this as well. That is, add a beer as a "had" without having to write a full review.

Before the Hads counted I tried to enter a beer when I was at Against The Grain and I was rejected because I had not done at least 10 reviews before then. That may have changed.

I believe it still requires a minimum of 10 reviews but I am not sure if Quick Reviews (Hads) count towards that total.

The site administrators are probably entering those without reviews

This is correct. I added the beers from the Founders Black Party and Dark Lord Day so that people could "Had" them while their memories were still fresh, rather than wait for someone to post a full review days from now (or never). I also do this with my local breweries when they update tap lists and with festival programs.

I concur with this... Before the 'Beerfly Guides' were phased out last summer, I was the one for Oregon (had site admin privileges for OR-related beers/places/events only) and I probably added several dozen beers without reviewing... often it was when a new release was happening (say, a new Hair of the Dog or an Upright Sole Composition or similar) where I wanted to get the name and basic ABV/style/notes into the database if known as quickly as possible so that others could begin posting reviews (or, of late, 'hads').
