Tried Berliner Weiss in Berlin this summer. Plain, raspberry and woodruff. I can check them off my list, no need to repeat imho. Greatly prefer the Bavarian beers over those I tried in Berlin.

A little Chambord works beautifully in Berlinerweiss

A similar experience happened to me. I had the opportunity to visit Berlin and was super pumped, because I love Berliners. However, it was actually hard to find places that would serve a Berliner, sans syrup. When I finally did a place that served BW, I was told I was a woman for ordering it. I asked what "men" drink and he replied hefeweizen. I told him in CA, that's what most women drink ; )

Creature Comforts in Athens, GA has traditional syrups that they import from Germany to optionally add to their Berliner at the tasting room. They're good, but the beer itself, Athena, stands on its own better.
