Thanks Al capone, that method of adding LME/DME sounds like a good way to go. makes sense. Info on my setup.
15 gallon megapot with false bottom, same goes for the kettle and I hold sparge water in a ten gallon cooler. Thats it. I use an immersion chiller at the end. Last weekend I brewed a beer and I maxed it out with 28lbs of grain. I did a bonehead thing and upped my grain absorbtion and % boil off per hour so my efficiency sucked cause I had too much water. I just wanted to try something out.
Anyways. I'll keep you posted on that quad when I do it SFACRKnight and others. My OG I would like to shoot for 1.106, and the fg to shoot for is 1.024.
Thanks Fac1ty for the info on efficiency and big beers. Your correct, I won't know til I do the recipe. 60% efficiency sounds like a safe bet. I am listening to all you guys and putting the info to use. What you all say makes lots of sense.
Thank you very much as well John snow for helping out too, and showing interests in what I'm doing, Its fun to hear what you all have to say or help with.

Recipe minus the 9lbs lme/4 lbs dark candi sugar.
    15lb pilsner/4lb light munich/2lb special b/.5 melanoidin/.5 biscuit/ <<I'm sure some of this isn't necessary. Figured I'd try it out, why not?
hops 1oz target at first wort/1oz Styrian Goldings at 20 and flameout.

1.5qts per lb of grain. I messed up at the beginning of the post to and put 24lbs of grain vs. what the recipe I made up called for
8.25 gallons for mash water strike at 155 for 60.
8.91 gallons for sparge strike at 175 for 15min.
using Abbey ale yeast from white labs. blowoff tubes will be used and I will make a starter.

Hey vikeman, I downloaded your brewcipher but can't use it. Do you use excel to open it up? Or some other program? I want to use it.

I guess my point was... that it doesn't matter. The OP didn't get upset about it explained his reasoning, you instead got upset and got rather rude to someone who was just trying to help. Tossing up ideas and seeing what sticks isn't a surefire method, but my point was that sometimes it does lead to some assistance that is worthwhile.

Yep, it's an excel spreadsheet. Or you can download the .xlsm version and use it in Apache Open Office (which can be downloaded free). It won't look as pretty in Open Office though.

Or... are you tring to open in excel and it's not opening?

I don't have excel but I'm going to get that apache open office program you mentioned and really check it out! Thanks for offering up a spreadsheet for everyone to use!

I was stoked when I brewed the beer july 5th and calculated the numbers. I got 79% efficiency! That was mash efficiency mind you. I figured I would add to this old thread to let you know how I did like I promised. I produced 11 gallons approximately. I would like to thank you once again for your help and advice! I did calculate it at 75% efficiency

I kinda did what you said and alcaponejr too. I added small amounts for the first hour and then dumped the last half of my other stuff during the last half hour. Thanks for the tips! Everything worked out well and got an og of 1105
