Well, that is true for a DIPA. The whole problem with the high ABV IPA is that you don't want to increase the malt to the point that too many residual sugars are remaining which will make the beer rich and sweet, at least moreso than the style's characteristics. Saying that PtE is drinkable because of a sugar adjunct, and that it is "lighter" does not quite put its complex flavor profile on the same level of "drinkability" as Miller Lite.

Edit: The key to my argument is that BMC uses adjuncts to diminish body and flavor which, for the most part, Craft Brewers don't do (regarding less flavor.)

Thanks. I was thinking of the whole Reinheitsgebot thing where anything other than malt, water, yeast, hops would be considered illegal. Thanks for giving me a better definition.

I get the general idea of your "salt to adjunct" analogy. But i don't think salt is what you are aiming for with it, salt can brighten other ingredients while to me 90% of the BMC taste the same and if i understand the root of your argument its like the BMC drinkers are like those people who just put ketchup on everything good or bad because they like the taste or thinks it hides flaws.

Its not about getting them off those beer because while you might not like the beverage they are drinking in fact they have a consistent product that will taste the same no matter where its produced and consumed and when its produced and consumed; and some people rather know what they are getting into and if they wanted to try something different then guide them along.

Chalk it up to palate development, education, personal preference but i know i much like a lot of the BA crowd started with those yellow fizzy water and were relatively happy until we stumbled (some cases actually stumbled) on something better something eye opening and we were hooked, while i might have 1-3 BMC choices every few months im not really enjoying it, its more to reaffirm my own opinions on Craft beer.

No, it tasted fine and it was ice cold, which is probably why. I don't mind ice cold AALs during the day if it is warm. Or perhaps yesterday was just one of those happy days and nothing really mattered.

It has been pointed out by Steveh that Gose was not misspelled, and the guy who brought it up was referring to the salt that is in Gose.

Thanks for all the feedback folks. It has changed my feelings on the issue a little. I will repeat one thing no one has commented on; why did I suddenly developed a sever dislike to American Adjunct Lager? I use to like it just fine.
P.S. I learned how to spell 'Gose' as well.

I switch up the craft and aal all the time........ it keeps you fresh.... and the craft beers always taste better when you take a week off............... I'd rather drink shitty beer for a week than no beer at all.. right?

    Simple
    1. you are accustomed to a more flavorful beer
    2. subtle beer snobbery/geek
    3. you are better educated beer wise.
pick one two or three or any combination of the three

I can barely even finish a bottle/can of a AAL anymore. If youre used to craft and havent had AALs in a while, to switch back is very difficult IMO. The adjuncty taste is so off-putting after your palate has adjusted to drinking beer with hops.

My philosophy: I'm a dedicated craft drinker. But if after one of my softball games when the temperature is 90 and humid as fuck and my teammate hands me a can/bottle of BMC, I'm chuggin that shit. Happily.

the reasons we choose the beers we drink include more than just the flavor of the beer. Price, camraderie, identifying with certain peer groups, history, nostalgia, sense of community, and many others.

I think it is important to draw a distinction between the rejection of beers from Bud, Miller and Coors because you are turned off by the ubiquitous and offensive marketing on the one hand and the feeling of superiority/ disgust to any inexpensive adjunct lager on the other. I recently started drinking Genny and to me that is a totally different choice than buying Bud.

Someone doesn't like a beer they used to like? No way, tastes don't ever change, we all like what we like always, and that cannot change. I call bullshit.

Technically "adjunct" began life as an unmalted grain which needed to be mashed along with the malt using the excess enzymes..Sugar and the like would be regarded as additives rather than adjuncts.
However, the word was stolen from grammar where it refers to an added part which is not essential.Like the infuriating use of "So" to introduce a sentence. "So I opened a bottle of beer"

It's already been pointed out that many of the world's most revered beers use adjuncts. It seems that the people who criticise the Reinheitsgebot for stifling variety are the same people who criticise brewers for using adjuncts.

    Cool story.

But there are some people that won't enjoy the BMC as you did.

Perhaps you are living in the past and everyone has passed you.

    Literally.

    Wrong.

I'd rather not drink beer at all than drink a beer I don't like. And BTW, AALs aren't "shitty beer." Many are as well made as craft beers. They're just a style I don't have a taste for.
