I'm relatively new to home brewing. I have a Brewzilla and was following an all grain recipe and they had me sparge up to 7 gallons. I thought this seemed like too much, but followed it along anyway. I now have a wort with an OG of 1.032 and the recipe said I should see around a 1.055. I put about 6 gallons into my Fermzilla.

Does someone know how much corn sugar I should add to raise it up to 1.055?

iirc 1# table sugar be 24 gravity points
use 5% more with corn sugar
    32 + 24 gets you 1.056

1 lb of table sugar is 46 (or 46.21) points per pound per gallon (PPG). In 6 gallons, that's an OG increase of..
    46.21 / 6 = 7.7
To get 6 gallons of 1.032 wort up to 1.055 (i.e. a gravity incease of .023), you're looking at almost 3 pounds* of table sugar, or even more corn sugar.

Sugar is not the best way to make up a gravity difference of .023. It's going to result in a beer with higher ABV, thinner body and weaker malt flavor. You'd be better off adding Dry Malt Extract, which is about 44 PPG.

*Actually, you'd need a litte more than that, because the sugar will increase volume as well. But this is back of the envelope.

I have a few pounds of dry malt extract. Would it be 3 pounds of that as well?

About 3.14 lbs, ignoring the additional volume from the DME. Also, you really should boil it in a small amount of water to sanitize it, which will also increase the volume. But that would get you in the neighborhood.

Thank you very much! I also downloaded your spreadsheet (very impressive) and intend on learning all of this.

    Couple quick questions...

The 1.032 OG, is that the 7 gallons pre-boil or is it the 6 gallons post-boil?
Is that reading at boiling temps or room temp?
