Made a brew and after the fermentation period the gravity should be 1.014 but is reading 1.024... anything I can do the help sway the gravity closer to where it should be?

How long has it been fermenting? Have you taken a 2nd or 3rd reading a day or two apart to confirm that the fermentation is complete? There are two options that I know of: increasing the wort temp to arouse the yeast and increase their activity and pitching more yeast.

    Need to know:

How long it has been fermenting? Which yeast did you use? How much yeast did you pitch? If liquid yeast, did you do a starter? What has the fermentation temperature been so far?

Also, was the OG what it should have been? If your using a hydrometer did you check calibration? Is your wort sample at the calibrated temp for the hydrometer? Also, if you did a full or partial mash your mashing temperature could effect the amount of dextrins left in your wort.
