Do any BAs know how decipher Adnam's BBD coding?

I thinking of buying a few pints of Broadside and letting one stew for a few months but I can't break their code.

    Thanks.

BBD - I imagine stands for best before date

This is how most English brewers list it

If I picked up a bottle of Broadside in a supermarket/off licence today in the UK I would expect the BBD to be between 5 and 10 months into the future eg BBD 10/12/12

remember in the UK the day of the month comes before the month , so the above date is best before 10th of December 2012

    hope this helps

I think Adnams codes the born-on date, as follows: A single digit for the year followed by 3 digits for the day.

The 4 digit combination is then followed by what looks like the time.

For example, 1347 would be the born-on date of December 13, 2011.

After trying to figure out the coding the above "cipher" came to me, although I don't know if it's the way to interpret it.

So what digits exactly are displayed on your bottle?

    1347 10:NN

    I forget the NN offhand.

Hopefully that's not the BBD, I'm pretty sure it's the born-on date.

Could the NN be :12 or :13 by anychance?

Therefore best before 10:12 or 10:13, ie October 2012 or October 2013 ?

Law in England on food and drink insists upon a best before date being displayed (above and beyond any other date)

Can't say I've ever noticed any English brewers to print a 'bottled on date' ONLY

Unless this is a different format because this batch is US export?

    Hi Ruds,

    Good points.

I'll email Adnams, if possible, later today and ask them how to read their coding. I'll post any info they provide here on this thread.

    Thanks, KP.

    Ruds,

Just got a reply from Adnams...

The #### ##:## is the packaging date and time, read as follows:
    • #: The first # is the year, eg 1 is 2011, 2 is 2012, etc.
    • ###: These 3 digits indicate the day of the year.
    • ##:##: The time.
    So 1347 01:11 indicates a packaging date of December 13, 2011 at 1:11.

While I didn't see it yet Adnams indicated the best before date is also on the bottle in the format DD MMM YY, I'll look for it when I get home tonight.

So the bottles I bought with 1347 01:11 are about 6 months old, hope they're still ok.

    KP.
