So, I am not sure why, but I can find no mention of Adroit Theory on this website. They look to be a very promising brewery which is supposed to open later on this year in Loudoun, VA. I am surprised there is not more talk about them here! They set up a "taste tester" list to allow some people to try their initial recipes and they all look wonderful. Seriously, the artwork and presentation are killer. I have a feeling that the beer is going to be exceptional as well. It is an interesting concept, allowing people to try the first beers and provide feedback, well before opening the actual brewery. I only hope the plan works out for them. They are starting off right, making unique, artisanal beers, including numerous barrel aged offerings. I, for one, can't wait to taste their latest brew, G/I/A/A, or "God Is An American," which is a DIPA aged on ash wood. Check them out, if you haven't already! http://adroit-theory.com https://www.facebook.com/AdroitTheory https://twitter.com/AdroitTheory
I tried one of their beers from another "taste tester" and contacted BA to set up a page for them. As of now, the page seems to have been set up. It is just waiting for "taste testers" to list some of their beers with a Had or a Review. Start blazing the trail and others will follow!
their design fucking awful- i feel like i'm looking at a bunch of Tapout shirts- and their "revolutionary" jargon and pretentious beer names are absurd/laughable. if they put as much effort into their beer as they do their look, though, it might be pretty good. they're not an actual, legal brewing operation, are they? if not, should they really have an entry? i also love the fact that they are being so blatant about shipping their beer illegally.
You sound really angry. What didn't you like about the beers you've tried from them? I've only have B/A/Y/S but I thought it was pretty good.
what's angry about it? i really think their design- while obviously thought-out- is horrendous, and my art- and beer-nerd friends i've shown it to have felt the same way. i don't deny that they've put effort into it, but i think it's bad. combine that, the pseudo-revolutionary jargon ("Molotov = Russia = USSR = Revolution = America. It all comes back around full circle." what?) and artwork (nice use of DC's three stars, btw), and the fact that at least one of the owners lives in a Purcellville sprawl subdivision and, well, it's eye-rolling at best. do i have a personal vendetta against them or hope that they fail? no, the more good beer we have in the state, the better it is for everyone. as for the quality of the beer, i never said i've had it, but if they put as much effort into their brewing as they do their labels, it's likely to be a decent product. as for the other stuff, that's not subjective- i'm a trader, so it doesn't bother me, but they are shipping their product illegally, and i honestly do wonder if it's okay for an as-yet unlicensed brewery to have a BA entry.
I think you are putting too much thought into this. I want more delicious VA beer offerings...that's all.
Well, it certainly sounds like a personal vendetta to me. Not sure what the subdivision the owner lives in has to do with the beer or brewery. Try the beer, then let us know your thoughts. You've made it abundantly clear that you're not a fan of the artwork. I don't particularly like Comic Sans, but I damn sure wouldn't speak so negatively about Russian River for that reason alone.
if you fail to see the irony in someone who chose to live in a NoVA subdivision using communist propaganda-style artwork and talking about being inspired by revolutions and Molotov cocktails, i can't help you. for the record, yes, Russian River has some ugly labels, as do Cascade, Stone, and a bunch of other great breweries, but if they make good beer and treat their employees (coughroguecough) well then it's not too hard to get past that. and if they're going to put that much thought into their branding and image, i see no reason not to take a few minutes to analyze it. i will say that i admire their creativity in terms of recipes, hopefully they pan out.
If you're going to put that much effort into analyzing their branding and image, maybe you could take an extra second to use the fucking caps-lock/shift keys once in awhile.
I've tried a few of their brews and they're pretty damn good. I am excited to have them as a new brewery not too far from where I live. The other breweries nearby are not quite as creative. Looking forward to seeing what they get into.
So this thread has been dead since June 14th but I am hoping to revive it here! I recently received a random bottle of ATBC's Lux, their barrel-aged Wheatwine and was curious if anyone has tried this one yet? I really enjoy this style so I hope it is as good as I am anticipating! Thoughts? Does it need to be aged or is it ready to be drank now? However if you happen to have a personal vendetta about ATBC, the brewer, the artwork, etc please keep that shit to yourself
I thought they're doing a solid job so far as brewing is concerned. I'm really hoping they start drumming up a following so I'll have some trade-able beers for once. And for the record, their page says they can only ship to VA, so I'm confused as how that's illegal... (http://adroittheory.myshopify.com/products/b-a-y-s-brandy-ghost-013)
I know nothing about alcohol licensing or anything, but I don't understand how selling a "pre-order" for beer is illegal.
they have their abc off premise license? as far as I know they are fully licensed and already starting to officially brew beer. their soft launch party is this weekend with beer (bottles and growlers) to go
