Pursuing the mix a six/singles section at a local gas station, I spotted a lonely Celebration. Bottled on 11/21/14, I gave it a go for science. Turns out it does indeed age pretty well! Anyone else find a single and took a chance?

Yeah, A few times. Around here the outdated bottles seem to find their way to the mix-a six shelves. Kinda defeats the purpose of getting to try new beers. But I have found a Stout or two that was worth buying.

I mostly buy singles. Bombers are too big a chance for me to take unless the beer has rave reviews, And 6 packs aren't ideal in case I hate the beer.

No. Once they're broken they are really over looked and usually old stock. I like fresh beers first and foremost.

I do this all the time and I've found some really solid beers. Found a couple year old Yetis on the shelf and they were outstanding. Also tried some new stuff that turned out well, although not old.

Most of my adventures in the singles aisle end with skunky or extremely oxidized beers. The first time I tried Old Rasputin it tasted like a liquid newspaper. If I can't find dates on the bottles I pass.

Pretty much this. I think it's a great way to try new beers, but one must be very wary of the dates on the bottles. As you said, if there is no date, I would pass. I drank the crappiest GF Sculpin in human history from a mixed sixer and a very crappy Two Hearted as well. Now that I know my way around craft beer a little more, I don't make the mistake of not checking dates anymore (especially important in mixed six packs because many times they will put the old/dud beers there to get rid of them)

Not a mix six, but I grabbed a Ruination 2 today assuming it was fresh. It wasn't, it sucked, I knew on opening I made a mistake and I know better, I was just a bit lax. I poured it out vs suffering drinking it.

Sure ... Optimator, Baltika's porter and euro pale (No. 2?) ... they were great. And I've tried a handful of Texas craft brews via the mix-six aisle and found some great ones (Rahr's Summertime Wheat comes to mind).

The Celebration was better than some other three week old IPAs I've had lately.

There are a few gems sometimes in the mix-a-six section if you browse past the expired and older beers. I have found on occasion some fresh Bells Two-Hearted, Alewerks Coffee Stout and an assortment of sometimes decent beers at a great price...

This is why you need to go to a store that lets you make a mix a six with any 12oz bottle or can in the store, thanks craft beer cellar!

My wallet really hates the pricing logic of the singles isle.

It was $1.39...for science and novelty. It was better than I expected.

I saved a celebration until my birthday. In the summer. Tasted like an arrogant bastard. Not sure about the newspaper old rasputin shouldn't age just do it well? I usually swap the old room temp singles out at publix with a fresh cold one out of a six pack! Lol. Not much tho. Sierra Nevada, Lagunitas ipa. Two hearted. That's pretty much all the craft.

I buy singles pretty regularly. I have a couple places not far from me that break up all their packs into singles and i love it

I would buy 2003 Celebration in a second if it was in the window its whole existence in a Death Valley gas station.
