Hey, y'all. I'm looking for some advice on what Minnesota brews I should try while I'm in town. I kinda lost track of the beer scene 5 years ago, and so much has changed! So, I would like to check out,

1- something that has opened in the last 3-4 years that may be under-represented
    2- something actually worth trying!
3- Something that is easy to find (I'm between Blue Max & The Cellars in Burnsville).

Just looking for some quick education on what I'm missing out on. Thanks for bringing me up to speed! I look forward to your replies.

Also, as a heads up, I'll be moving back to MN next summer, so I look forward to seeing you all around local events.

Some of my favorite MN staples

Day Tripper, Rum King (still around some places) - Indeed
Bent Hop, Cold Press - Bent Paddle (This may only see limited metro distro)
Size 7, Rainmaker - Steel Toe

If you are around downtown/NE Id check out Dangerous Man as well

Pretty generic list, I'm sure those after me will help as well

Indeed Day Tripper and Rum King (places seem to be getting more stock).

Steel Toe Size 7 or any of their beers.

Bauhaus just opened recently and just started canning. Enough their entire canned line up.

Bent Paddle Cold Press was released this week.

Brau Brothers Moo Joos is tasty.

Fulton's Worthy Adversary and War and Peace is still on shelves.

Steel Toe Size 7 and Bent Paddle's Venture Pils are both excellent. Indeed is bangin' on all cylinders with each release, the most reliable of all the new breweries, and a few of their bottles (and most of their cans) are pretty easy to find.

I always hear great things about Olvalde -- still haven't tried 'em!

Aside from that, there are so many new Minnesota breweries -mainly taprooms- offering limited brews which see little in the way of growlers, and these releases have easily-eclipsed the number of packaged offerings. About the best I can do is keep track of (most of) the new breweries in planning -- actually trying all of these new beers? I'm probably about four years behind myself!

Basically anything from Bent Paddle, Bauhaus, Steel Toe, and Indeed. There is other really good stuff around but the list would be too long. Sooooo much good beer here now.

Bent Paddle: 14° ESB, Black Ale
Badger Hill: Minnesota Special Bitter, Foundation Stout
    Indeed: Day Tripper
    Northgate: Parapet ESB
    Lucid: Dyno
(not an IPA in the bunch!)

I would add Harriet to the list others have created. They have a much wider distribution on tab than in bottles, but are definitely worth checking out if you like German and Belgian styles.

Hammerheart hasn't been mentioned yet so I'll give them a shout. As far as I know they are still tap only, but worth a try if you happen upon them.

I'll also reiterate everyone else who's mentioned Bauhuas. They are making some excellent stuff right out of the gait.

True enough. Those bottles sell-out pretty fast at my local!

If barrel aged stouts are your thing you must try Lift Bridge BA Silhouette. Was lucky to try it on tap the day before Darkness Day and it just blew me away. In my opinion, its in the same class as Assassin and KBBS for the best stouts I've had all year!!

Northbound Brewpub in South Minneapolis is easy to get to from your location and worth a visit.

Unfortunately, You're kind of in the tap room desert in the Southern Metro (I'm sure that will change eventually). I don't have anything to add to what people have recommended beer wise, but if you do manage to make it up to the cities visit a taproom/Brew Pub or 12. Off the top of my head the ones I'd recommend (that you probably won't find in stores) are Sisyphus, Dangerous Man, Fair State, and Northbound. Oh, and Town Hall.

True enough for now. :slight_frown: But distribution for kegged beer from the newer Minnesota breweries has picked-up some, lately, and there's one or two places (in case he can't make it into Minneapolis) that he can hit in a pinch -- maybe Crooked Pint.

Is it even 15 minutes not far off of Cedar Ave. from that location? That is an estimate on my part as I come from the west and go up Cedar Ave.

More importantly is it worth a visit or not? It has been a few months since I have been there but was planning on going again this weekend. Has it turned to shit suddenly?

Badger Hill won a GABF gold medal for their White IPA and also won a gold medal for their MSB at the US Beer Championship. Recommend those for sure. Also recommend Bent Paddle brews. Both breweries are solid.

You have to get yourself on the outside of something from Surly; Furious if you like a hop bomb IPA, Bender if you like a classic brown Ale, or Coffee Bender.

Try the Chocolate Milk Stout at Dangerous Man, or Day Tripper IPA at Indeed.

Bent Brewstillery has a nice selection in their taproom in Roseville.

For taprooms with great selections: Happy Gnome in St. Paul or The Republic in Minneapolis.

You gotta, you gotta, you gotta, stop in at Four Firkins in St. Louis Park.
