Thoughts on throwing this up 1:1? Thanks!

Is the ADWTD b1 or b2?

Not sure, I'm actually in your same boat so I was wondering what other people had to say.

B1 Was a much smaller batch than 2, batch 1 saw very little distro from shelton while B2 is seeing wide distro. I may be off here but I think bottle counts are in the vicinity of 2000 for B1 and 15000 for B2. So there is quite a large difference between B1 and B2.

I wouldn't go as far to say that. I rarely find batch 2 beers are better than batch 1 beers, especially when batch 2 is multiple times the size. But I hope that info helps. B2 Mocha Wednesday was made in a much larger quantity too, so this should be close! Gl OP

Really - brewers get worse from Batch 1 to 2?

I'm sure people can come up with examples of beers going both directions. Fremont Bourbon Abominable Batch 1 = OK. Batch 2 = Awesome. Batch 3 = Awesome. Batch 4 = Even MORE Awesome. Fremont Kentucky Dark Star B1 = Great. B2 = Awesome. B3 = Great.

    B2 usually doesn't taste as rare. ;-)

    If it matters.if it's a b1 or b2 adwtd, then it matters if it's a b1 or.b2 MW.

if it.doesnt matter I suppose it doesn't matter for either.

Batch size matters when the brewing equipment changes requiring recipe adjustments.A larger batch brewed using more of the same scale system would,,in theory taste exactly the same.

You can't assume any difference in taste simply because what's released is a larger quantity IMO

I would also imagine the chances of variation on a once a year beer being greater than one brewed semi-regular or all the time as you get to really dial those in. However, there can also be differences from batch to batch just due to the ingredients, process or equipment.

Hops and grains can vary from harvest to harvest. Also barrel aging and blending could be a contributing factor. Sure brewers can make adjustments for these, but it can be difficult. There have been threads about variations in Zombie Dust and pseudoSue and I know TG has commented on the variation saying different hop harvest and even age of the hops plays a role. We have also seen this in yearly releases like Darkness and Darklord.

New equipment or scaling a recipe can have an effect too. I know Surly has had to work on dialing in their new equipment at the new brewery. Also TG's first batch of pseudoSue on their new equipment came in with a higher ABV than they expected.

Variations are just the nature of the beast.

Batch 2 Mocha Wed is ready to drink now...Batch one had a lot of alcohol phenols (aka it was "hot") Batch 2 on the other hand is very smooth...FWIW.

I agree that while the general recipe is the same, i have seen differences from year to year like this due to barrel aging process.

To answer you question I say yeah should be good with 1:1...especially with price/etc.

    Good Luck!

I believe b1 was 150 cases. I haven't seen any confirmation for how many cases were released this year. Obviously more, but who knows by how much.
