I work at Smoke and Barrel in DC. We have a full-time line devoted to Schlenkerla and have no problem getting their kegs. We generally rotate through the dopplebock, helles lager, fastenbier, etc.

there are casks that make it to the us, probably only like 5 though. I think it is usually fastenbier. I also saw barrel aged helles online. Would have liked to try that.

I had the Marzen on tap sometime in the near past here in St Paul. So fucking good. That is all.

Bavarian Lodge in Lisle, IL typically has a Schlenkerla tap on. I've also been to events where they have had Schlenkerla beer on cask (Eiche for one event).

I think true Rauchbiers are the most polarizing beers in the hobby for craft beer nerds like us (especially since everyone seems to love sours).

    Cheers!

This is correct. I'm not sure how many casks are shipped to the US, but I've seen them here (and have tried them). In fact, if the OP looks at the reviews for these beers, he'll notice a number of cask reviews, quite a few of which are not from the brewery/brewpub in Bamberg.

You're in NYC, right? I've had the Helles Lagerbier at the Ginger Man before but it comes and goes. You can keep an eye on BeerMenus.com to see when it'll be back or do a search for other places. It's definitely available here, though.

I've seen the Marzen and Helles infrequently, but the Krausen was freaking excellent when I had it on tap once at a local place that specializes in good German beers. They're definitely worth seeking out on tap if you're a fan.

Yep - they're actually on tap a lot in the Boston area. Helles is typically the most common, but I've seen others plenty too...

The only one I've seen in Charlotte is the fastenbier. I love all of their beers and wish we saw them on draft more often.

Also, can someone call herrburgess and make sure he's okay?

OK. Just in mourning at the lack of outlets for any of Schlenkerla's draft products here in SC. We do have the 5 l kegs, though.

Someone told me that Brawley's here in Charlotte got some of those kegs in a while back. Rather than heading there straight away, I waited a week or so. When I stopped in, he told me he'd sold them for a paltry $20 a piece, since he couldn't tell how old they were.

    Tragic.
