I remember being very impressed with the IPAs from The Kernel back in 2013 when my wife and I lived in London. This was well before the current IPA boom in the UK. My impression was that their IPAs were at least the equal of what was the greatest IPA of the period, Pliny the Elder. Here is a current tap list from The Kernel, showing the excellent range of their beers, as well as a number of IPA selections: DARK MILD 3.8% CASK LONDON BRICK - RED RYE ALE 5.8% CASK LAGERBIER - GERMAN STYLE LAGER 5.2% DUNKEL - MUNICH-STYLE DARK LAGER 4.4% TABLE BEER - ELLA 3.0% PALE ALE - MOSAIC 5.2% PALE ALE - ECLIPSE, AMARILLO, CITRA 5.1% INDIA PALE ALE - DESTINATION (ELUSIVE & BURNING SKY COLLAB) 6% INDIA PALE ALE - NZ 2025 6.9% INDIA PALE ALE - SUPERDELIC 6.9% DOUBLE IPA - SUPERDELIC, CITRA, GALAXY 8.4% NITRO STOUT 4.4% EXPORT INDIA PORTER - TALUS 5.6% INDIA DOUBLE PORTER - COLUMBUS, CHINOOK 7.8% EXPORT STOUT - LONDON 1890 7.2% IMPERIAL BROWN STOUT- LONDON 1856 9.2% IMPERIAL BROWN STOUT- SCOTCH BARREL AGED 11.8% BIÈRE DE SAISON - DAMSON, 2023 5.8% BIÈRE DE SAISON - RASPBERRY, 2024 4.9% BIÈRE DE SAISON - APRICOT, 2025 4.8% BIÈRE DE SAISON - BLACKBERRY, 2023 4.8% CIDER - 2023 BLEND 6.2%
Btw back in the day The Kernel was a craft brewery in the literal sense of the word. When we visited their brewery/brewpub the owner's companion told me: "We purchased a used Italian bottle filling machine but we still prefer to fill the bottles by hand." Probably different now, but that's craft!
Speaking of age old favorites.... I have been on keto with no beer since Christmas and hit the down 25 pounds mark today. This week I treat myself by going to the local tavern out in the middle of nowhere for a fish fry and some draft beer. Much to my surprise I have been craving Genesee amd PBR drafts. Far from craft but if my brain is asking for old school lagers that's is what it is going to get. Besides....the Genesee drafts are 3 dollars
Congratulations on the weight loss. It's my hope that you enjoyed those (relatively low calorie) beers.
