On the one hand whenever I encounter this I think "omg what a huge inconvenience, this is stupid" but upon further reflection I realize "hey, that only took 10 seconds of my time."

Great question. I thought it was required at one time, but I have noticed that it's less prominent that it used to be a few years ago. Interesting to see it cleared up by the links.

As long as stupidity and inconvenience doesn't take a lot of time it is to be tolerated. Sorry but we differ in that analysis.

I wonder if they're ever surprised by the sheer number of craft beer fans who share a January 1 birthday.

I wonder how much of our tax money went to go to pay for a committee to for a sub committee to vote in people to decide to pay more people to write a law that would mandate beer websites to have an age check, in which people under 21 could just easily lie to get on in order to stop underage drinking.

You know, for pretentious underage drinkers

I mean, I can see some "advertising to minors" parallels with flavored cigarettes, but for the price of a couple bombers you can get a 30 pack of Natty Ice. Much more drunk for much less money.

Hmmm... underage drinkers? Does that make us "over age" drinkers?

Hell I've bought beer on line and only one ever asked for a drivers lic. All require a 21 yr old to sign, but that could be anyone. I'm sue the UPS/Fed Ex guy isn't looking at ID unless the signee looks like he's 14.

What breweries should do is offer the option of creating a user account. I know that sounds like overkill, but I know from some of the sites that I visit a lot (a real lot), it would be easier to have my age information saved (and then saved in Chrome), than to enter that over and over again. There are days where I have been in and out of Bell's site, where I have had to enter my information 4 or 5 times in a single day. That becomes a huge pain in the ass.

If you took the time to research it or just went upthread to my post about it, you would probably realize that it wasn't very much at all, given that it is self regulation within the industry.

I think it's silly as well. It's the internet and so how easy is it to lie? PLUS you aren't buying anything and if you did you would have to show proof of age upon delivery. It's not illegal to buy a beer glass, shirt or bottle opener underage; only the beer

This is exactly what a cookie would do, without needing a user account...

I was actually asked to verify my age by a craft site's Twitter acct immediately after following them. I made a "WTF?" Type tweet (after verifying my age, of course) and they replied back, saying they were sorry for the trouble, but something about social media recently being interpreted as falling under advertisement guidelines or something, and they felt they needed to do it.

I understand them C'ingYA, just don't agree with why they have to.

It's just to show they don't intend to market their beer to minors.
