Was in Rehoboth 2 weeks back and picked up a few aged bottles from DFH

One was a 120 min bottled July 2008

Anyone had any aged 120 from say 08/09?

How did it compare to a fresh 120 from tap?

I had an '08 not too long ago. It was really sweet and I preferred it fresh.

I had one from 2010, and it tasted like syrup. I can only imagine what 2 more years would do to it.

Ideally, you let them sit at least 5 years. Or drink them fresh. The stage in between is iffy.

I get heavy syrup no matter what the age. Fresher is better because the hops are still present. I really don't care for this beer, I have a few bottles that I don't think I'll drink.

I had a 2009 120 on tap about a year ago... did a side by side with fresh 120 on tap. The 120 had mellowed slightly, though was still pretty hot. Not sure which i like better.

I still have a bottle of 2006. I'm going to open it at some point this year. Even when fresh, it has little character of an IPA. With its strength, it should hold up for some time.

    Cheers for the thoughts gents

Think I might leave it another year before opening the 120

Also got a 2009 Raison'd'extra and a palo santo maron

Think I'll check these out first!

120 and Raison D'Extra are two of my favorites, particularly with age. (Obviously, D'Extra is ONLY with age, as they suspended brewing it in 2007.) They totally mellow out on the heat over time. I am LOVING 2008 120 right now. Underdstand, they are very sweet beers, so I think this is a personal preference. I actually just went WAY out of my way to obtain a 2003 120 min 750. These beers will last for ages, properly cellared (again, if they agree with your palate at all to start with).

Fresh 120 min doesn't taste like an IPA at all. There is a lot of hops, but the heat and the sweet make it taste like a Quadruple-IPA, so to speak. I like it okay fresh, but LOVE it aged.

I had 120 fresh on tap a year or so ago and enjoyed it, so look forward to the aged version, although as others have touched on not the flavour or feel you would expect of a beer called 'IPA'

If they stopped brewing D'extra in '07, perhaps mine is an '08 bottle date? Can't remember as don't have it at hand

The only 'big - 10% ABV +' DFH beer I've struggled a little with, and that's not to say I didn't enjoy it, was Worldwide which I had fresh on tap earlier this year

It was a 10oz pour and became a little hard work about two-thirds of the way through!

    Funny you mention WWS...

My brother-in-law and I did 120/WWS Black and Tans last weekend. It was HEAVENLY! (After it warmed up a bit...) It was 2008 120 min and 2010 WWS. (I always hear how amazing ages WWS is, but just haven't aged any myself.)

I really enjoy 120 fresh, it's so damn unique and just really is an incredible beer if you ask me. I went out of my way to trade for some 2008s to see how it was aged...and couldn't drink more than a couple onces. I like sweet beers, but this was too much. It just wasn't good at all. I could see having a couple onces with a dessert or as a dessert...but it's not going to be something I seek out.

World Wide Stout on the other hand, is incredible. Always.

I had a '06 side by side with an '11 earlier this year. Both were boozy and extremely sweet, and between three people we couldn't bring ourselves to finish either bottle. We did much prefer it fresh, aged it was a syrupy sweet, sherry bomb.

Frankly I have come to the conclusion that I prefer all the the DFH big beers fresh.

The Palo Santo should be awesome right now! Had a 2010 just a week ago and I loved it, prolly think it could stand to improve even a little more though

I've been aging a few 2008 Palo Santo and opened one last year. It was phenominal! This beer definitely ages well.

Forsure! I had it fresh and disliked it so much I considered LIFing it but couldnt do that to someone. Now that I've had it aged I'm just gonna let it sit there until it learns its lesson

I opened one of my last 2010s last month, it was amazing but I agree that it might be peaking in about a year or maybe even two. Regardless, it's a great beer at any age.

My Palo Santo was bottled September '09

Think I might take it onboard this weekend

I'm struggling to read the bottling date on my Raison'D'Extra

I think it says '09 , but hard to tell. I've mailed the Rehoboth brew pub where I purchased it 2 weeks ago. Hopefully they can confirm

That said, someone up thread said they stopped brewing it in '07, so perhaps it is '08 vintage?
