A while back I bought a 16th anniversary version (I believe they're all the same or at least similar). I never got around to drinking it. In the meantime, I've had 17th and 18th anniversaries fresh. Both were like drinking wood pulp. Not very hoppy but super oaky. I decided to hold on to the 16th and see how it aged.

Well, tonight was the night. Just past 2.5 years old, I've reviewed it: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/158/59165/?ba=Dope

It was honestly quite good. Still has noticeable hops but the oak has died down tremendously. Now it's just a nice layer of complexity instead of completely overpowering the beer. I gave the aged 16th a 4.0 versus the 18th which was 3.65.

Interesting and fun experiment for the day.
