Had a 2010 Juliet next to the 2013 last night and had an interesting experience.

The 2010 was much darker on the right than the 2013 and had a much stronger blackberry flavor. The 2013 was more lingering sour and just more sour overall.

In my experience I thought that aged fruited sours should show faded fruit flavor and get increasingly more sour but this showed the opposite. So I was curious if anyone knew if this was normal for Juliet and the other GI Sours or if this is potentially due to a batch variation/recipe change where they previously were more heavy on the fruit side.

FWIW we enjoyed the 2010 much more so if this is the norm then I may go buy those last few bottles on the shelves...

Sounds like batch variation or even recipe modification to me. You could email GI your post and see what comes back.

I've noticed this also, but felt both were uniquely good

I'm sure it's just batch variation. I haven't had the 2013 but I noticed the 2011/2012 (don't remember which one it was) was noticeably different from the 2010.

It's also worth keeping in mind that as more compounds in a beer oxidize the darker it gets, so that may be partly to blame for the darker shades in the 2010.

Had a 2010 Juliet recently and thought it was absolutely fantastic. Have had similar experiences with Madame Rose, too. Definitely became more complex over time and developed just the right amount of funk.

I think it's just batch variation. The old Juliet used too be my favorite, and Lolita least favorite. Lolita latest batch is my favorite and Juliet my least.

Had a 2012 that was super sour. Maybe batch variation, or cellaring conditions have to do with the way sours gain acidity.

Personally I was a bit disappointed with this years variants.
