    Hey guys,

I'm new to BA and I wanted to see your guys' thoughts on aged beers! In particular, I am a huge Stone fanboy...so I was wondering if you guys wanted to share what you're sitting on or what you've tried and your opinions.

The bombers I am currently waiting on are:

    Stone's 14 Anniversary Imperial IPA
    Stone's 18th Anniversary IPA
    Xocoveza Mocha Stout (x3!)
    Master of Disguise
    '05 Imperial Russian Stout (RIS)
    '15 Chai-Spiced Imperial Russian Stout
    Stone Farking W00tstout
    W00tstout 2.0
    Mikhail's Odd (x2!)
Bourbon Barrel Aged Bastard (2014 Release)
    Sublimely Self-Righteous Black IPA
    Mutt Brown Ale

    12oz Collabs:

    Special Holiday Ale
    San Diego Session Ale
    Highway 78 Scotch Ale

Aged Stone Beers I have Tasted:

15th Anniversary Escondidian Black IPA (my first aged beer, and I loved it! Hops were gone except in the aroma)
12th Anniversary Bitter Chocolate Oatmeal Stout (Also delicious! Powerful oatmeal flavor at the tail end)
'07 Imperial Russian Stout (Aged nicely, which is no surprise. I tasted chocolate milk notes.)
'13 Espresso IRS (My first coffee stout, and I fell in love)
10th Anniversary IPA (As a 9 year old IPA, I realize it was way passed its prime. Flavors reminiscent of Old Guardian and Double Bastard...interesting to say the least.)
'09 Double Bastard (Very malty. Also some spiciness. Boozy as all hell.)
Stonewall Ale (The first barleywine I actually liked. Made me reevaluate my preconceptions on the style.)
Imperial Suede Porter (Wish I could have had this fresh, however it was a solid porter. Could definitely taste the Jasmine and sweetness from honey.)
*Others I cannot recall at the moment....refresh my memory hahaha!!!

Note: Before you guys tear into me, I realize some of the beers I listed should not be aged 99% of the time. However, most of these I have just come across over the passed year or so, and did not necessarily age myself. As a 23 year old, I did not have the opportunity to try some of these bad boys fresh. I was lucky enough to run into other beer lovers who had saved them and allowed me the opportunity to purchase or taste.

I really hope you aren't paying for those six and seven year old IPA's. You got hosed on those, if so.

Drink those Xocovezas, they are likely over hill already.

I've never paid over $15 bucks for an old IPA. I realize they will not taste any good. The thing is, I like to collect Stone's bottles. So whenever I buy an old beer like that, the value in it is the interesting experience and the bottle I can add to my collection. Thanks for the concern, though ahaha.

I had a '10 vintage Old Guardian last night, and though it had slight oxidation, it was still really delicious. It still had a pretty significant hop presence, in the form of a sort of orange marmalade thing, with a deepened malt presence. It was quite tasty.

A few months back I had the 15th Anniversary Black IPA, and it had aged really nicely. Of course the hops were mostly gone, but the malt backbone on that beer is quite interesting and tasty that it was still very tasty. It was a bit more full-bodied with age, with great powdered chocolate and coffee flavors. Awesome!

I think the 15th Anniversary is still superbly complex! That beer was my first black IPA, and I fell in love with the style!!!

Was 15th Anniversary the beer that eventually became Sublimely Self Righteous?

I have been aging Double Bastard, Old Guardian, and IRS, as have most people. Everything else by them, I have consumed while fresh... except for Matt's Burning Rosids. I thought it was interesting when I had it fresh, but I drank my second bottle at about 9 months to find less smoke. I liked it more with less smoke.

Has anyone been cellaring the Stone Suede Imperial Porter that came out in 2013, or has anyone opened one recently? I have a bottle in my cellar and I'm curious if I should open it soon or hang on to it

I had the Espresso IRS after about a year and it was so so so good. If anyone in here has any to trade, I'd love to see how another year has done it. #shamelessplea

If its still alive, its running on borrowed time...
4 years ago it was showing signs of heavy oxidation when I reviewed it. A year later it was hard to stomach... keep in mind, I enjoy aged beer more than the average person and enjoy oxidative flavors more than I probably should. I cannot imagine that beer still being enjoyable today. (Having said that, I think I still have an unopened bottle... lol)

I drank one recently and, while I didn't detect much oxidation, the spices were muted, the chocolate had almost completely faded and the coffee was nonexistent. Still drank fine but was nowhere near as good as fresh.

^I agree with the crowd. I drank my last xocoveza in february or march... there was nothing left in it to enjoy.

Tried the Bourbon Barrel-Aged Arrogant Bastard (2014 release also) a week ago and I'd say drink it now. Not gonna get any better and I wasn't impressed. Barely any barrel or bourbon actually.

I'm also a huge Stone fanboy, but can't get a lot of their specialty releases of course being in Ohio.
