Hi guys, so I (foolishly) bought a bruery 5 golden rings today without reading reviews - only to look at them when I got home, and they were pretty bad. All 5 of the reviews suggested that aging might help. I was wondering if anyone has tried aging this beer and if its helped at all with the cloying flavors? I figure I will go ahead and age it for awhile anyway but doesn't hurt to ask, although I dunno how many people have tried this one.

That beer is supposed to be made for ageing. You're supposed to buy all the Christmas beers and drink them together once 12 Drummers Drumming comes out (ideally, of course you can drink them whenever the hell you want).

If I'm not mistaken, it's only been out for a few weeks. Not sure it someone has aged it enough to give a solid answer just yet.

Since you foolishly bought it, give it a shot now. I had some at the brewery at I thought it was pretty tasty right now.

well, seeing as the beer only just came out - how do you propose anyone would have any experience aging this beer? Seriously, with the aging... some beers are just bad regardless of how many years it sits in the closet.

You should age it for about a week (Dec. 8th), then drink it. The alcohol burn will take the pain away that the Badgers will be feeling from getting stomped again by Marquette.

Seriously though, I don't think the problem is cloying as much as the immense alcohol burn. This beer was the inspiration for that song in Boogie Nights: "Feel, feel, feel, feel my heat."

Don't let reviews dictate what you like. You bought it. Drink it with an open mind.
You will find there are beers that are highly rated that you don't like. You will also find beers that are not well received but you really enjoy.
I saw the reviews and bought one today anyway. I respect the Breury and I am looking forward to trying it.

I thought this beer had been released awhile back and was now released again, my bad.

And I'm not letting reviews "dictate" my tastes, but if there was a common consensus that it's better aged, I would have preferred to age it given that it's not easy to get...

Ugh, you should have tasted the rum-barreled one then. It's like roofie-colada, except the girls would actually notice all the alcohol. That one is probably the only one that NEEDS to be aged till 12 drummers druming.

It's stupid hot fresh. Took me two nights and a combined three hours to drink my first bottle. Like a bourbon pineapple upside down cake. I'll aging the rest of the case for quite some time.
