I just picked up a bottle of DFH 75 Min and the bottle says that it can be aged. From what I understand, this is the first offering of this beer, so there won't be any comments from experience. I'm just curious what your thoughts are on aging this.

I'll go ahead and state the obvious, yes most of the hops will fall out of it over time, but between the bottle-conditioning and the maple syrup, I suppose some interesting things could happen. Thoughts?

This beer has been made before, but it hasn't been bottled, I believe.

And I wouldn't ever age any IPA. I've yet to have one where it turned out good, let alone improved.

I also immediately realized after posting this that I was in "Beer Talk" and not "Cellaring/Aging". Apologies!

It sounds more plausible than aging a regular IPA, but realistically the hops and probably the maple will fall off, and I don't see anything more to it than that.

I would not age this beer, drink it fresh , if you can!

Buy two, drink one and age the other, it clearly says on it that it can be aged, so try it and let us know.

I would have done this had my shop not limited me to a single bottle.

Same here, but that's what girlfriends are for right?

One is getting opened this weekend and one is going away for a while.

Can you talk my wife into going up and buying a bottle for me?

Yeah it's weird, they have pallets of most DFH out, but some stuff they only get a small amount of so they limit it. I sent the wife in to get another. I'll drink the second one this time next year.

That works with bottlle limits on KBS too. No way I could talk my GF into giving hers up to the cellar though.

Normally I agree not to age IPAs, but Sam knows his stuff. I have half a case of Squall IPA aging and it's been outstanding (last tried it ~2 months ago), obviously the hops fade, but it becomes a whole new beer, kind of interesting to see. Of course theres also 120ipa, love that with 4-5 years on it. YMMV but aging a beer is never disappointing to me, even if it tastes awful it's still better than BMC and you learn something in the process

Does Doghfish Head's 75 minute age well? I just picked up my first bottle today and I read on the label that it has good "age-ability" but I figured it being an IPA that some of the hop flavors/aromas would deteriorate somewhat quickly. Anybody out there ever had a 6 month+ old 75 minute before and how was it?? Just wondering if I should drink them all soon or let a few sit in the cellar.

I have a bottle down in the cellar next to my 120's. I had the 75 on cask so I figured I would trust Sam and stick this in the cellar for a while and see how it is.

Completely agree. Squall ages really well for what it is and will forever be one of my favorites they have ever put out. This is hands down my dads favorite beer and when he found out they were not making it this year he went out and bought a case to cellar and enjoy til it is made again. It still tastes pretty damn good

75 minute was not good fresh, imo, so no need to age this one
