I have a bunch of Big Bad Baptist, 2013 KBS, and 4 2013 BCBCS. Epic told me to drink the BBB fresh so the coffee notes don't fade. BCBCS says "develops in the bottle for 5 years". Which I think more than anything is simply marketing (OOOH! It's get's better???). Everything will change over time. Whether or not it's for the better is the question. Right now I'm drinking a 2012 Breakfast stout and it's great (I'm aware it's not barrel aged). So the question is. Do you prefer to age your coffee stouts or drink them as fresh as possible? After opening the 1st release of BBB recently, it wasn't nearly as good as it is fresh. Curious to hear your thoughts and experiences. Thank you and happy holidays!

Coffee will obviously fade with time. Whether or not you like that all depends on personal taste.

I just opened up a Whiskey Barrel Rodeo last night. 1 year+ old, still ridiculously coffee-filled. I haven't had any other coffee stouts aged, but if that's faded, it must be crazy fresh.

A fellow BA shared his BCBCS with me recently and I think it was about a year old bottle at the time, and the coffee notes were surprisingly subdued already. They were there, but not on the forefront. That is not to say it wasn't absolutely stunning exactly as it was though!

I've had a few coffee stouts with a few years on them ; the difference on beers like speedway is minimal : my 2 cents.

Had the same experience, except it was me sharing with my friends.

I had BCBCS 2013 Friday and it was awesome fresh. In the same night I had a bomber of 2012 and 2010 BCBCS and with a year aged it still had plenty of coffee flavor and coffee notes. The 2010 had very little coffee and so the bourbon was more pronounced.

I have had a few coffee brews from different breweries and I am wondering if the coffee being used will hold up better than others?
