I recently acquired a BT'11 and put it in my cellar to age awhile..On the back it says it can be cellared for "decades and decades". Is this really true? Sounds like a dumb question but I'm being completely serious!

I think some age definitely does Black Tuesday some good, the bottle of 2010 I had that was a year old drank a bit better than a relatively fresh bottle of 2011 (though I still definitely enjoyed the '11). As far as "decades and decades", we don't know for sure, but if any beer's built to hold up that long it's probably Black Tuesday

Quite a claim for a brewery that has been around for only a few years.

have you tasted it before? its definitely pretty boozy and in-your-face when relatively fresh, although i still liked it. definitely something that can benefit from age, but i'd try both fresh and aged if you can.

I've been fortunate to taste 2009 BT on two seperate occasions in the last few months. Once at this past Novembers Reserve Society barrel aged tasting event, (a happy accident too since they pulled a case they were not supposed to) & also at a private tasting. So far, 3 years has not, imho, hurt the beer. Still tasty, complex, strong, & relatively thick. Is it "better" then when fresh....that's a personal preference question that to me, no one but you can answer. For me, I like it with some age with it, but also enjoy it fresh too. Will it continue to hold up decades, if properly cellared, my magic 8 ball says please ask again later.

I would love to try both fresh and aged, but I only have one bottle and can't get ahold of another(rather frustrating actually). So maybe I'll just save it for next winter, hope for the best!

I mean honestly I like some heat with my BA stouts, thats why I'm fond of BA BORIS so much fresh, so i'm decifering if I should drink it now rather than later...

I have only tried the 2011 but I thought it was sugary. I am cellaring my other two for at least a year perhaps longer.

It's the booziest, sweetest RIS I've ever tasted. I have no idea if it can hold up forever, but it already kind of tastes like port, so I can't disprove that notion...

You have time to ponder, or as you mention, you can wait until October, get another fresh and then do a side by side. As I stated early about the 2009, time didn't hurt it at all imo. To clarify, I've also had the 09 fresh (well 6 months aged), 10 fresh & aged, as well as 11 Fresh. (RS memeber each year) If you hold this six months to a year, personally I don't expect you will lose anything in that time frame, and so far time has brought the sweetness down, brought out more of the barrel notes, wood, bourbon, vanilla, and the choclate is a bit dryer, as opposed to malty sweet. Anyhow, hope that all helps.

Of course, open it when you wish, & hopefully share with friends & family. Enjoy, cheers.

Thanks for your input, I would love to do a side by side but I only have 1 bottle and can't get another! Ahhh, well 1 is better than none...so an epic night shall be commenced rather soon I imagine...

No problem. Yeah if RIS is your style, you will probably like it no matter what I would imagine. (though some don't of course, different palatte's etc.) Let us all know what you think whenever you decide to open it.

Will do...originally I got super excited because I was gonna crack it at my wedding in 7 -10 years or so(who needs champagne when you have BT?!?!) Super stoked to try it though...hope it lives up to my expectations!

Yeah that would be a great occasion, but as far as I know ( and assuming the Bruery is just as successful as ever) BT will be around in 7-10 years, and probably a lot easier to acquire then, than it is now, as their production of it, as well as their capicity has gone up every year.

I think it will hold for a good amount of time. Decades? Who knows yet.

I say open it. if you like BA BORIS... do it. I just had my first one last month, FINALLY... loved it. I have always been let down on hype, but I wasnt this time. compare to BCBS, but I honestly liked it better.

I wish I had a Black Tuesday to try, let alone age.
