Ok, so i searched the site pretty extensively for this topic and dint find much. What is everyone's thoughts on aging cans? Some input i have seen expresses concerns over BPA breaking down over time and making the beer "toxic" whereas others seem to be wholeheartedly behind it. So whats the consensus?

I have heard of old Ten Fidy cans break down, but not the newer ones. I say age away.

I have a few from last year. I am hoping for the best. I have had old soda cans leach out and ruin the things near them. The tops are not open but the bottom can edge is rough. Aluminum break down? Has happened with a few different brands made by different companies. Ten fidy is my first beer can I am holding on to that is full. No I was not ageing soda , just collecting the full cans

    Enjoy

A can is a perfect vessel for aging beer (airtight, light-proof) and unlikely to break down in any reasonable aging period.

I've had the exact same thing happen with soda cans that I've collected over the years. I have a few cans from when the Red Wings won the Stanley Cup in 1997 and 1998. I'd say it took at least 5 years for the soda to rot through the can, possibly longer. You have to figure that most sodas are going to be a good deal lower on the pH scale than any beer you might be aging in a can though. After poking around on homebrew forums it looks like the pH of an Imperial Stout should be in the neighborhood of 5 not very acidic at all when compared to the 2.5 of a typical cola.

Uh oh. I have some Diet Pepsi cans from the Patriots' first SB win in my room ... on a shelf high above some stuff I would very much not want soda leaked on. Haven't had anything happen yet, but now I may consider a more leak friendly location.

Or, you know, dip the whole cans in wax. That's what the cool kids do!

Well, there are still unopened cans of Billy Beer around so it's no guarantee that old cans will break down.
