How well does this beer age? I am able to pick up a 4 pack of 2015 for 12$ and a 4 pack of 2016 for 14$.

First question I have though is does this beer age well ? It's only 8.3% so it's not as if the alcohol burn will fade because it's smooth to begin with.

Second question would be if these were good prices for those years/age on them ?

    Any help is appreciated

The coffee will fade and the 8.3% makes it barely ageable. Definitely best to drink them fresh. I've had them with up to two years (not on purpose), and although certainly not terrible, they are certainly not getting better with age. Around here they are $3/bottle fresh.

If that's the only Breakfast Stout you can get, and if you've never had it before or had it and love it, the 2016 is probably still worth it as it's only a few months old at this point.

If I have anything 8℅ I'll let it sit for a little. After I've tried it fresh, obviously!!!

Breakfast Stout is all about coffee & chocolate (well, along with that silky smoothness). Those definitely fade. I just had my last Breakfast Stout from 2016. It's 5 months old or so and still delicious, but I definitely wouldn't age it beyond a year to hold you over until the next year's release.

I came across a bunch that was sitting in a shop for ~10 months...bought some and regret it. Noticed a serious decline in flavors. Would not age this one at all.

We recently drank a 14-16 vertical to try them out and the 15 (13 months from bottle date) was my favorite. The coffee had faded slightly compared to the 126 but it was so smooth with big fudge like chocolate notes and a huge mouth feel. The 14 was still very delicious albeit with faded coffee notes, but the 15 was just so good. The 16 was of course typical FBS. I'm so glad I have 8 more 15's to work through over the next few weeks.

I just popped one of my FBS from back in '12 (yes, really - it kinda hid in the back of my cellar for a long time) and it was delicious.
Still had coffee flavor - not as much as fresh, obviously, but still there, still chocolate and roasty profiles were still there as well.

I had 12 and it was terrible. Soy flavors predominated and all the coffee had gone. Tried another 12 recently and it was the complete opposite. I must have had a bad bottle. I still think fresh is best but the taste of the 12 was interesting.
