I get the aging in the name of "science" aspect of it... But I think you're bonkers if you're aging Hopslam.

^ Yeah, I'm all for treating beer as beer but such an experiment is better carried out on a less awesome IPA, if it's for science. And it can only be for science, because we all know it's gonna be better fresh.*

    * Fresh-ish, as sometimes a few weeks or even a month will help things stew to their peak.

Been debating this myself. I'm not a fan of overly bitter or hoppy beers. That's my personal preference and taste. So for me, I prefer an aged Hop Slam over fresh. But then I thought, why buy it just to age it? Yes it will change into something I prefer over fresh, but why bother? If I just ran out and bought it never having tried it before and didn't like it fresh, then I'd let it sit. But I'm not going to run out to grab some with the intent of aging it. There's plenty of other beers out there I'd rather spend my money on.

Put me in the camp that enjoys Hopslam fresh or with some age. Hops and Honey are both natural preservatives. Hopslam will go for years if stored right.

I am not much of a hophead so all the Hopslam I buy each year ages at least 6months to well over a year before I crack them. This beer more than holds up to the test of time and like others have said it just becomes something similar to a sweet barleywine. Very, very far from undrinkable. At the very least age one or two and see if it works for you.

It will lose most the carbonation and the crisp bitterness from the hops.. in my experience it turns into sweet syrup.

    Curious about the bolded part.

I love IPAs but am not a fan of HopSlam. I bought a 6er last year; drank (2), gave away (2), and sat on (2). I drank one at 6-mo and still didn't like it. I plan on sitting on the last one for 2-yrs. I've heard it's an awesome honey barleywine around the 2-yr mark. We'll see next year.
