I purchased 2 of the Raison D'Extra by DFH about 6 months ago now; had the one right away and have been aging the other since. Was wondering peoples thoughts and opinions on aging this beer? Should I let it age longer?

I've got one and don't plan on opening it any time soon. I'm also curious what the consensus is on this one. I was thinking 4-5 years.

People have been aging previous batches for years. No reason to assume this one is any different.

Had it fresh alongside the 07 version. 07 blew it out of the water. Mellowed completely. Drank like a port wine. We split it four ways and were very happy about it.

I wouldn't drink the second bottle until 2020, at least.

I'm from Jersey and I've seen some Raison D'Extra still floating around here. If It was me I'd take a look on Beermenus.com and see if anyone by you still has some leftover. Then at least you have a back up.

It's an 18% Strong Ale. The thing could last 10-15 years if handled properly. I had an 07 about 6 months ago and it was enjoyable. Not mind blowing, but still very good.

I have an 05,07 & 14 in the basement. Happy to trade them...er that's another board.

I like the 14 fresh but I'm aging my extra bottles at least 2 more years.

The 2014 fresh is good but I thought the 2007 with 7 years on it was better. I have one 2014 left and I don't plan to drink it anytime soon.

I drank my 2007 in 2011 and it was really fantastic. Bought some 2014, it'll be 3-4 years at least.

Sounds like I need to pick up a few more bottles of this and 120. My bottle shop has a few left last time I was there.

I found some March '07 bottles in a cooler about 2 years ago and I'm gonna sit on it until it hits 10 years.

I had a craft beer seller tell me to bury a couple of bottles in my yard for 5 years, what do you make of this suggestion

That's the worst idea I think I've ever heard (regarding aging beer), please just ignore that advice and place the bottles in the coolest place you can within your home. This place should be dark.

If someone honestly said that to me with a straight face I'd taken 'em out back and beat 'em with a hose.

He must be familiar with another Dogfish Head beer that is very ageable. Read the directions on the label of Olde School Barleywine:

I had a 2005, 2006, 2007 and 2014 tasting on my 30th birthday about a month ago. My personal preference is that 10 years is too long. Any favorable qualities break down too much and it turns into more of a cloyingly sweet syrup. 5-7 years is probably spot on. The booze will mellow, the beer will darken and become thicker with less carbonation. If you want to see this beer change nicely hold it 5-7 years and it will drink more like a port. Now if I only had 8-13 so I could do a 10 year vertical!
