Has anyone aged Sierra Nevada Narwhal imperial stout (not the barrel aged) I just wanted to see if it's worth it, the ABV seems high enough. Just wanted to see if anyone noticed a change in taste after aging

Following this thread. Been curious if I should put some away.

I picked up a 4 pack in 2013 and just polished the last one off a few days back. From what I recall it really mellowed out. There was very little alcohol heat at all and it seemed thicker (more viscous?) than the first few I had. Also it seemed to have a heavy burnt after taste. I think it's worth the aging just to try it out...definitely different from a fresh one but not necessarily better, I think it's all to personal taste.

I had my last 2012 over the holidays and made a note to put at least one bottle out of every four or eight into the cellar. It was fruitier than fresh and fruitier than it was at 1 year. Plums covered in chocolate, pretty mellow.

I just put a bottle away yesterday. Great beer with a great label.

I drank 2 and put 2 away into the cellar from the last 4 pack I bought in November. Hopefully my willpower holds up through the winter.

I don't generally like imperial stouts beyond a year, but I liked the 2013 Narwhal with a year on it. Might just be shit luck, but my bottle didn't oxidize like some other brands did.
