So I recently purchased a 4 pack of ten Fidy with the intention of cellaring for couple years. When I got home I noticed the cans already had couple years on them as they were dated 2012. My question for those who have had experience with aging ten Fidy, how many years of cellaring would ya say is recommended for it to reach its peakness? Should I drink them now or if I age it for another year or so be even better? I've already had it before fresh so I'm not that eager to drink it now if it's not that urgent.

    Thanks

I'm probably going to be the only one that holds this opinion, but I think that Ten Fidy does not age all that well. It gets too sweet, too soon, for my tastes. And I enjoy a big, sweet stout.

Also, there are previous threads in this forum regarding aging Ten Fidy - should you not get much response.

I'd drink one now. If you love it, drink em all. If not, drink one every year. I wasn't impressed with it fresh, after a year it got a bit better.

It's available and inexpensive enough that there's no harm in experimenting. But if they are 2012 cans I'd drink at least one now to see how you like it thus far.

I have four in my cellar just because. Some will tell you they prefer it fresh, some will say they prefer it aged, and there's not really any way for you to tell what camp you're in until you try it. Just start small.

I'd have to agree with Grumpy and say it gets really sweet with age. I saw someone on Instagram wax the top of the can. I don't know if that helps but it made me laugh.

Waxing cans? Lol. Never heard that one before. I think I may take one of the previous recommendations and try one now and go from there. Thanks!

I'd drink the 2012's now.. i've had Ten Fiddy's 2012 bourban barrel aged stout a few months back and it was very good.

Got an email response from Oscar Blues when I was trying to figure out the age of some cans that had no date stamp. Guy who responded mentioned best was 2-3 years on them. Would say drink couple now and save a couple for next year.

I have several in the cellar from 2012 and was going to give one a go pretty soon. They have aged well so far. I suppose I need to try a 2013 since I haven't had a fresh one in some time. Good to know that OB suggests a window of 2-3.

Quick update..just tried one of the 2012 and it was fabulous! I think it was just as good with some age on it as it was fresh.

Any detail you can add to that? Maybe the alcohol mellowed or it got sweeter? In any case its great that you enjoyed it.

Last ten Fidy I had was few months ago and I don't think I recalled there being much of an alcohol presence even in a fresher bottle. None the less, the 2012 bottle did not have any noticeable alcohol taste at all. It was so smooth and silky. I was also very surprised it retained a lot of its chocolate and coffee notes as well.

Just had a 2010 yesterday and it was terrific. Very fudgy. I'd say try one now and cellar the rest.
