What's up guys? I just got back from the local bottle shop about 2 hours ago, and I noticed something I've never seen before. On the bottle of Weyerbacher Insanity (1/30/13) I picked up, I noticed a small 'air bubble' in the glass, that after I tried to pick away (thinking it might have been a spot of glue or something from the bottling process) left a 'pit' in the glass. Maybe I'm just paranoid, but will this have any affect on me cellaring this beer for awhile? I'm worried about air somehow seeping in, although it isn't leaking or anything. I'm probably just OCD, but that's me. I've just never seen this before so I'm cautious of putting it away for some time, relatively unattended. Thanks guys.
Nonsense. What you are seeing is a "stone" which is a glass defect. The beer is good but I would drink the beer and not cellar it. The bottle is not in imminent danger of cracking or exploding but why take chances with it?
Back in high school I had a temp job for two weeks where all we did was pull empty bottles out of cases looking for just these bubbles. It was a batch of bottles sent to AB that had some defects and they were concerned enough to have people go through each and every one of them to toss them out. Probably 500 pallets worth of bottles, that may have been the most boring week of my life. I say drink it and get others to cellar.
Saw this on a bottle once and beer was actually leaking from the bubble. Needless to say I gave it to the beer guy, we both had a good laugh.
Whaaaaaat? Not even Insanity? Riserva? Sour Black, Fifteen, Double Simcoe (750s) or Thirteen? I'll gladly accept any and all Weyerbacher I can get in hopes that it's as good as the ones listed. Seriously, Insanity is a great beer, especially considering the price and availability.
Oh, and OP - I have one of those bubble things in a Bruery tulip glass I got this year from the Reserve Society. Bugs the shit out of me.
Their labels did that, mostly . Merry Monks is so creepy! Insanity actually wasn't bad but not something I'd seek out again, same with Riserva. I love DIPAs but Double Simcoe was kinda like paint thinner to me. And don't get me started on the wretched abomination that is Blithering Idiot... anyways, we don't get their stuff out here in Cali so I'd have to trade for it but what I've had wasn't very encouraging. Oh well, more for you guys!
