I brewed yesterday and filled the airlock with starsan.. The fermentation is already aggressive and it's forcing the star San out and making a mess every where. This happened with my last brew as well.

Is there something i can do so I don't have to keep refilling the airlock? It's getting annoying.

    Cheers.

Use a blow off tube for the first few days while fermentation is aggressive.

    Or, don't overfill the airlock.

Most times this happens when I do not have enough head space or a high gravity fermentation. I always have an extra airlock to switch out.

I agree with pmarlowe mostly then make sure you have adequate head space. Some beers just require a blow off tube upfront. Also for air locks I now just use tap water.

Loose tin foil for the first few days. If it looks like it's going to blow-off, add tube. If not, airlock.

What temp is it fermenting at?

I ferment it cool, and don't have to worry about it blowing all over the place.

I don't think you're supposed to fill it to the brim. I sometimes get bubbles on the top, but never a mess, and I haven't had to change them out yet.

Three piece: Fill to the point where the vents on the second piece are submerged + a little. All you're doing is blocking air from going in, so as long as the vents are submerged, you have nothing to worry about.

S-type: fill both chambers a little over half full. If you have a bad ass fermentation session and you get some drips going down the side, big deal. Put a towel under it.

If none of this works, and you're getting krausen blasting out the top, than use a blow-off tube.

    Regards,

    Chris
