Friend of mine who is just getting into beer is taking a vacation to Leesburg, Al, and he want to try some breweries that are around while down there. Any suggestions.
Moved out of beer talk as it will get lost there, moved to correct region. I know @zookerman182 if from Alabama maybe he can throw out a suggestion or 2. Roll Tide.
that looks to be pretty much no mans land. You are equal distance from birnimgham, huntsville and atlanta so take your pick. As for beers you may find on the shelf i would grab anything good people, straight to ale, or bluepants.
While @zookerman182 makes some good suggestions, there is a brewery 20 miles south of Leesburg with a taproom that's open six days a week: Back Forty. It's worth a visit even if he doesn't have time to get to Huntsville or Birmingham.
Back Forty in Gadsden is the closest brewery. Cheaha Brewing is in Anniston which is about a 40 minute drive south of Gadsden. Cheaha Brewing is also a restaurant. Back Forty has been having food on Fridays lately as well. As far as the beers, Back Forty is better IMO. I am probably biased however because I'm friends with the brewer, cellarman, and some of the other guys there.
It looks like Leesburg, AL is in Cherokee County too, which is a dry county so I don't think your friend will be able to pick up any beers at the local store. I also vote for Back Forty if he has time to visit Gadsden but really Birmingham and Huntsville have the best breweries and bottle shops in my opinion.
