Sorry for another Alchemist post. I swear I searched first.

Long story short: My wife is due with our first child in about eight weeks. Obviously, this will take precedence over any sort of beer hunting and my "drive three+ hours" to get in line for beer days will be over indefinitely. But this doesn't mean I won't want beer!

However, I'm thinking that I've got one last hunt in me that would need to be planned and resolved in advance (we all know how summers fill up with weddings, bbq's, etc.).

Is there a best/most reliable method of getting a case of Heady Topper? Like, by now is there a store that I can get to without needing to leave my house at 7am on a weekday, lining up, and praying I get a case?

Should I wait for a pop-up sale? I feel like this is the best option, but it may not work out with the aforementioned weddings, bbq's, etc. I think my best bet is finding a case somewhere in the next six or so weeks.

That being said, coming from northeast Massachusetts. Looks like Montpelier is the closest store, huh?

    Thanks, BA's.

Hunger Mountain Coop in Montpelier gets cases at 3PM on Friday but you should plan to get there early because it goes quick. According to their Twitter it sold out in 37 minutes last week. You can also check the Alchemist's web site as they list retail locations that sell cases and delivery schedules. Probably worth calling those stores to get an idea on when to show up.

Truck sales are also an option but the last one didn't have Heady. You could have got some at CBC Waterbury but they had a limit of 12.

The Winooski's Vermont Beverage Warehouse is very consistent with Heady Topper deliveries on Tues and Thurs. It's the biggest drop, so there's a line, but the last few times I've seen the line everybody there got their cases and there were still some cases left over (after the initial line passed). Check them out on facebook. People usually show up around 10-11am and wait for the delivery which comes where between 11 and 1pm. Winooski is probably an ~hour north on I-89 than Montpelier.

I just happened to be next door at the homebrew shop last week when Heady was delivered. (I stopped making beer runs for Heady last year, but if it's there and I'm there, then I'm not going to pass it up.) I saw guys carrying out cases, so I went in and grabbed a four pack. The entire line had went through and there were several cases remaining. I think they still split the delivery in half, half on delivery around noon and other half around 5 or 5:30pm for those who work. There was no waiting at the cash register, because I arrived after the lined had already got their fill.

I'm a Burlington resident, so I'm not sure about Hunger Mountain's lines.

The Beverage Baron in Barre gets cases on Wednesday around 2ish. I stopped their are a meeting in Burlington one day and got a case. Their was probably 10-12 people waiting but they easily had 30 cases or more on the dolly when it came in. I never have a problem picking up a couple of 4 packs in Morrisville on weekends either. The list on the alchemist website is set up great for those seeking it out.

The Heady Spotter web site breaks down the deliveries by restaurants or retail, so you don't need to guess. Also has maps and everything that you need to find it.

So there's no real sure fire, "Go to ____ at ____ on _____ and you'll walk in and out" type place yet? Good info to have. Amazing. I haven't sought it out in a while and thought maybe some of the rush had died down a bit.

Looks from this Barre or Morrisville might be closest to me. And there's always worthy burger on the way home!

Last week's lines were due to the holiday weekend, same with the week prior. You should be in the clear for the next few weeks until it's Time for the brew fest in early July.

Exactly. I would target a week where there are not fests/events and you should be all set. Also do your homework on delivery days. I walked into a gas station/convenience store in Barre and picked up a case on a Wed because I knew the schedule. No other people were there for Heady.

Can I assume that you can only get this in Vermont? Flying into Manchester, NH late Friday and then driving to Marlow & Keene NH on Saturday? Guessing my chances of scoring some is zero but thought I'd ask in case any of you had some insight. Happy to trade some beer from Minnesota if anyone has an interest. Thanks. -Tucker

Thanks for the quick response. I'd love to try it but I already have a 20+ hour drive, probably won't add 3 more to that.. Maybe next year.

Heady is readily available on non-beer related event weekends. I went to Healthy Living at 2:30 today and they had plenty. I've also always found Route 7 Liquors in Shelburne and Waitsfield Village to be very care-free when picking up cases. But once again, if you come up on a weekend where there isin't any beer related activity Heady is fairly easy to come by.

This is great. Now, if only I could find a place to eat dinner in Montpelier with a good tap list too...

I think this will be the plan.

Oh, sorry, that was sarcasm. I still find myself talking about the burger I had there some time ago. Too long actually. Cheers!
