We add an S here too, and I’ve never bought a beer at ... Aldi’s. Actually I’ve never given it a thought and I rarely see anyone buying their beer, and they do sell name brands like Foothills. No date no buy, but I’m not really a Foothills fan.

At the Aldi on New Garden Rd. beer flies off of the shelves. They do have some Foothills, often have Highland 12-packs at a good price, and the German beers are better than decent. The wine selection is good and improving. With the Trader Joe's just down the road they seem to have stepped up their game. Trader Joe's wine selection is quite good.

I’ve only been to that Trader Joe’s once, busy little place, I love TJs. Burlington is a lot different than Greensboro though, far more rural, I’ve bought wine there but never beer.

we shall see ... every time I go back to New Jersey all my jersey-isms come back and my kids start laughing at me for saying "wooder". Its amazing how the regional things are so ingrained. in us.

It’s interesting moving from the Philadelphia suburbs to mid Carolina. My first week living here I stopped to get a Chili Dog, the lady gave me a bun full of chili with no hot dog. Logically I asked where the weenie was. Apparently you have to say I want a hot dog with chili on it. Who eats a bun full of chili with no weenie on it? And why call it a chili dog then? Lol, she asked me if I came from South Carolina, some people here are a bit prejudiced about South Carolina.

Here's my second recent six pack purchase from Aldi...

A very clean, albeit light, regular bock that looks fantastic in a glass. It does have a mineral taste while cold that I don't care for but it fades as the beer warms up. I'm a fan. YMMV

The Broegel is too much of a Shiner clone for me. Not a fan of that one.

The biggest smallmouth I ever caught was on a crankbait that was part of a fishing lure pack I bought on a whim at Aldi...
Aldi is good for what it is. You have to understand what they're trying to do, and accept that. Back when I was willing to shop at a few stores to get just what I wanted, I would go there to stock up on the snack/trail mixes they carried, and chocolates, as they were a good deal. I have far too many off brand items around the house that were in the "Get it now or never" or whatever they call it section. Never really thought too much of any beer that I've had from there, but my mom keeps a six-pack of something or other she picked up from Aldi, because she knows I like "fancy beer", and it tends to be better than the Coors she'd normally keep around, so I like them for that.
FWIW, my mom also says that the Aldi near her (Fredericksburg, VA) is the cleanest, most organized, best dealing with the COVID19 stuff grocery store that she has been to in the past month.

Sure, if you like Shiner Bock. I never understood how they could make so many good, to-style beers in their special series, but the Bock is a weird, brown ale-like mess.

Same around here. They're even giving out the shopping carts without a quarter -- then the workers are taking them back from the customers and disinfecting them.

Of course, the Aldi direct supply chain to our stores seems to be hitting speed bumps these days -- lots of empty shelves that look similar to the early days of the pandemic.

I have a nostalgic attachment to Shiner because my roommate in law school drank it so we always had that in the fridge.
Other than paper goods (TP/Paper towels, tissues), certain canned goods, and pretty much all cleaning supplies, it has been pretty good around us. W don't buy many canned goods so it hasn't really affected us so far.

My wife went last week -- she said bread and baked goods were cleaned out, the fresh vegetables were down to the picked-over, they were limiting dairy like eggs and milk to two containers per-customer, fresh meat to two containers per. And yeah, paper goods were cleaned out again along with that row of discounted clearance items -- bare.

Don't forget, Aldi has its own supply chain, so maybe our far-flung side of the area is at the end of the line, dunno.

That said, the 2 bigger chains around us seem to be keeping their stock in better shape nowadays... just don't ask about the skyrocketing prices all of a sudden.

Wernesgrüner Pils is one of the best value beers around at $6 a 6 pack. It’s actually a German import under the Bitburger label. Also Kinroo Blue is a good imitation of Blue Moon for half the price if you’re into that sort of thing.

I finally got around to having this beer. Agree with your assessment. I think it would be a great hot weather while you are outside type of beer. very sessionable!

I am sworn to save as many old U.S.A. regional breweries I can. If there was a way Aldi could notify me when my stores (Chicago) were getting more beer brands from the Third Street Brewery [a|k|a Cold Spring - where I toured in 2010], a plant more dedicated to seltzers, energy drinks, and sports beverages, I would schedule a shopping trip to Aldi stores to buy those beers. :grinning::clap::beer:

And here I've struggled to enjoy Broegel because I always hope it'll taste like Shiner Bock but it never tastes anything like it.

I don't drink Shiner to drink a nice Bock. It was the first beer I enjoyed and I enjoy it for itself.

Broegel is much sweeter, and has more body than Shiner Bock. And it has lots of fruit flavors in it. I finally started to get an appreciation of it thinking of it more like a Bock or especially a Belgian brown ale.

Anyone have the Folded Mountains Pale Ale develop tons of sediment a couple months after buying it?
