As an update to this post. Today I just bought a 12 pack of Shiner and I'm enjoying it right now. It's cleaner and toastier than the Broegel I find. More refreshing.

They are sprisingly good for beer. Selection getting better. Lagunitas and Schlafly offerings here

The 2020 Aldi Beer Advent Calendar is being released on 11/4. Here's what I can find from Thrillist on what's inside:

    Beer Advent Calendar
    Price: $49.99
    Available: November 4
Germans take their ales very, very seriously, so it’s not too surprising that Aldi’s beers are on point. They range from a traditional Pilsner made by a brewery with 600 years of pedigree to Belgian whites, American IPAs, and Irish stouts. This variety pack gives you a little of everything, offering up a globe-spanning, cicerone-approved (well, mostly) taste of Aldi’s sneakily solid beer shelf.

Pthaaht! If it's not all German I'm not interested.

At least they didn’t say Imperial Russian’s take their New England IPAs very seriously.

Once again, marketing people who know diddly of what they're selling.

I'm sure they're using "ale" as a synonym for beer. I see that too often.

From the Aldi Website, I know these are 11.2 oz vs 16 oz that Costco ($10 more) does, but these actually look pretty interesting. I have only bought the Wernesgruner and the session pale that they sell. Would like to try the others here without having to commit to a 6 pack

$2 per beer = $12 6 pack? Might be a nice gift but I'll pass, as I've had about 25% pf those already and 90% are from 2 breweries.

So if I'm someone who lives nearby an Aldi for the first time, how badly do I want this? Is all this private label stuff any good?

All of these beers are reviewed here. I have had the Wernesgruner German Pilsner and I think it is a pretty solid pils (runs about $6.5 a six pack). I have also had their Hoppin Nomad and thought it was a good value for $7, more in line with a west coast style piney/caramel type IPA.

@-Andrew- the beers are all decent, mostly their a solid VALUE. The Kinroo Blue is a nice witbier, and as mentioned, getting fresh German pilsner with Wernesgruener at $7/6-pack is a great deal.

On that note, who knows if that will last much longer - or at least be Wernesgruener instead of another macro-pilsner brewery available at Aldi. I'm sure someone will be happy to take their place...

Key words; Solid, good value, decent. All code for they’re ok beers, but you won’t do cartwheels.

If your budget minded why not just spend an extra buck on Sierra Nevada beers? Those code words go completely away, in just about any style you like, and 12 packs are probably equal in price as Aldi stuff, especially if you catch it on sale. SN sells well too so the beers are most always very fresh.

Yeah, it all comes down to licensing and a lot of stores that are remodeling are including dining seats so that they can sell beer and wine and they also limit the number of beers you can buy. The idea behind the law is so small-business beer distributors that have been running in PA for years don't shut down because Giant and Wegman's can afford to sell a 4-pack of FBS for $8.99. As a consumer I love the really good affordable beer, but as a supporter of some of these old guy's businesses it puts me in a weird situation when purchasing, so I only purchase shit beer at grocery stores, and leave my heavy hauls for the locals.

The Aldi stores in New Hampshire that I have been to only sell the typical B-M-C-Sam's-Heineken-Corona brews. We don't get any of the Aldi name brand products. At least that I have seen.

I’m giving this thread a bump. What’s good (or good enough) at Aldi these days?

Are their house brand beers consistent across their distribution footprint?

Good question. Because my store is out of the way I don't go to Aldi or buy their beers often enough to have an answer. I usually use their flyer that comes inside my Sunday newspaper to see what is being advertised (I always assume it's a newly-stocked selection), but the flyers rarely show beers anymore.

I'm looking forward to a new, larger store opening closer to my house and located in an area where I travel frequently. They'll be getting a lot of in-person looks to see what they have (beerwise) and I'll pick up on what their normal brands are in the new store.
