Our Trader Joe's and our best Aldi are just over a mile apart. Talk about convenient!

Huh. I must have have had my eyes in a wrong place. This is the exact pair of stores I am talking about and missed it.

I was going to suggest that if they had opened recently perhaps they hadn't gotten their liquor license worked out, but it seems that @steveh cleared that up.

I checked out that new Aldi about a month after they opened -- was looking for the Feldschloßchen Maibock and didn't find it, but saw the usual Aldi brands. Keep in mind, the Aldi Liquor section isn't really big.

But who knows, maybe with (as you said) TJ's across the road and Mariano's right next door, this Aldi decided to remove their liquor section to use for something else?

If you're near Vernon Hills you should be near Mundelein -- their Aldi definitely has beer. The Gurnee, Round Lake, and Antioch stores all have liquor as well.

It could be that I was simply not looking - I live next to Woodman's so I have reasonable selection much closer to home.

Completely understandable. Buffalo Grove store? Never been to that one, but the Kenosha and McHenry (Volo?) Woodman's are beer lovers' paradises. Usually decent prices too.

Yes, the Buffalo Grove one. They are too IPA-centric to my taste, but there's still a ton of interesting beer there, and the prices are very competitive.

If a Woodmans opened here I would probably only shop there. Love those stores, huge, crazy selection of food and alcohol and great prices.

    Enjoy

Not just Woodman's, but the Kenosha store has a great range of imports too. And I saw Trumer in Volo for the first time in a long time, so at least there are good choices.

Not really. I mean the local aldi has stuff from Revolution brewing but, you can get that anywhere in the area around here. They have a few mediocre import beers and the irish stout is pretty good but, never really thought of it as the place to go for beer

If you're in IL and near trader joes definitely better than aldi. Does the vernon hills one have all the pipeworks beers individually like the one in orland park?

Pretty much all they have at the closest aldi here. Bet walmart has as good of a selection tbh.

Not sure, I almost always head for the Josephsbrau selection, but check the others now and again.
Never seen Lagunitas or Revolution at any of the Aldis up here (Kenosha's carries New Glarus), but I can tell you the Walmarts in the area are pretty blah.

BTW -- I don't see Wernesgruner Dark or any of the O'Shea's Irish beers at your Aldi, sorry.

But I do see those same crappy under-shelf lights -- they're bright and hot. I'd like to find someone to turn them off, but there's no dedicated beer handler at Aldi.

They had a couple of the Irish stouts by checkout. Actually the only reason I went in there. Good stuff. Aldi in Wisconsin has new Glarus? I need to get up there again someday.

I don't think so, but truth be told, I don't bother with a closer look at cans with their sort of crazy design.

The point isn't that the beer selection is broader than Walmarts. But that they have good pricing and some of their beers are above average to really good. The Wernesgruener is a very good German Pils for only $1/beer. The Bacher is also a decent German lager when Wernesgruener is not available.
    You mention the O'Sheas.
The Feldschlossen seasonable beers are always a buy for me.

I've never seen the Wernesgrüner Dark but I'll buy it if it comes here.

I'll agree can't beat the prices of some of their stuff.

That's probably four times the selection that I have at my Aldi.
