To be a legal "Malt Beverage" in the US it must contain hops.

Damn dirty apes!!!! Sounds like politicians making up laws to simplify taxing alcohol bc they are lazy but this is all beyond me. Thanks for the feedback though.

Is it really true no German brewer would say they brew ales? I.e. when Weihenstephan brews their hefeweissbier would they say they’re brewing a lager, or lagering? Not challenging you strictly, just genuinely interested how common place that mindset is among German brewers.

I can't speak for them but the notion that ale simply means top fermented is a recent American thing which has been repeated so often (much beer writing isn't thoroughly researched and "facts" get copied from article to article) that many people accept it as gospel truth. The result is nonsense questions like "Is Baltic Porter an ale or a lager ?" whereas it's neither

I think this is non-beer geek talk for "is it a malty pale/amber, it is like BMC, or is it hoppy?"

Honestly I kinda got the feeling he was asking to try to sound smart. I don't think he cared what it was, he was probably gonna try it anyway.

I recommend a good flogging, or at least a caning or a booting.

Around here, most restaurants offer budlightcoorslightmillerliteandshinerbock. If they have anything "craft" it's Sam Adams BL. Also classify Dos XX as premium and jack up the price. Most people in this part of the world wouldn't know an ale from a radler.
