AleSmith Brewing Company's 2014 Reserve Series will continue with a brand new addition to our barrel-aged collection Brandy Barrel Aged Old Numbskull. To complement this release, we will also be releasing this year's first batch of Barrel Aged Speedway Stout.

    BRANDY BARREL AGED OLD NUMBSKULL

Our 2013 Great American Beer Festival gold-medal winner, Old Numbskull, has been aging in premium Brandy barrels for the past year to develop its rich and intense flavor profile. The result is an amazingly complex beer that balances the caramel and toasted malt character of Old Numbskull with notes of plum, honey, and oak from the barrel aging process.

    BARREL AGED SPEEDWAY STOUT

This complex imperial stout has been aged in premium bourbon barrels for over a year to add complimenting notes of oak, vanilla, and bourbon to its massive coffee, chocolate, and roasted malts flavor profile.

Starting Monday, May 5th at 11:00am, you will be able to purchase up to three (3) bottles of Brandy Barrel Aged Old Numbskull and up to four (4) bottles of Barrel Aged Speedway Stout. Please note; you will need to use your name to purchase each bottle, and your name will be registered once you place your order. We want to make this as fair as possible - any duplicate sales to the same name will be voided!

Is this a "pick up the day of" kind of thing, or will they hold an order? I'll be in San Diego for work, but not until November. My gut says I'm out of luck, but correct me if I'm wrong.

    Unfortunately,

Please DO NOT PURCHASE BOTTLES UNLESS YOU ARE SURE YOU CAN MAKE IT TO THE BREWERY BY JULY 13, 2014.

Proxies will not be allowed for this release, you will need to show your proof of purchase (in the form of confirmation email from Brown Paper Tickets) and valid id to retrieve your bottles. NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE. This means you will NOT be able to pick up anyone else’s bottles, and we will not release the bottles to you without a confirmation and valid id matching the name on the sale! IF YOU PURCHASE THE BOTTLE, YOU HAVE TO PICK IT UP!

Please ensure you only pick up bottles during the following dates/times: Mon-Fri: 12-9pm, Sat: 11am-9pm & Sun: 11am-6pm. Please do not purchase bottles until you’ve read the terms and conditions listed on the sale page and can ensure you will be able to pick up your bottles by SUNDAY, JULY 13th, 2014!

They have these sales everyone once and a while. Keep your eyes open and they will have one that you will be able to get to. Different beers though.

I know the BA Speedway Stout is solid... but what do you guys think about the Brandy BA Old Numbskull? I have a $60 budget and debating whether to get 2 SS or 1 of each...

I'd say one of each. If you've had BA Speedway Stout there is nothing wrong with expanding your horizon with Numbskull.

What's with the service fee? This is hitting me like the first time I saw a delivery fee for my pizza delivery that wasn't a tip!

No doubt, is this a beer or a concert? Too many other good beers of this class out there to warrant this self-made circus. Pass.

You got that right. I'm about an 1 and a half from SD and was considering purchasing some bottles, but the price is out of my budget.
Next big personal concern for me is being priced out of craft beer.

A friend was asking me why The Bruery and Three Floyds gets so much shit for the pricing of their barrel-aged offerings, yet AleSmith is mostly spared the criticism. I have no idea what to tell him, except that I may just have to agree after seeing $40 bottles of 2013 BASS hit the shelves here in Madison, Wisconsin.

Agreed Stevedore when we stayed in Stevens Point for
CW-16 a liquor store in town had BA Old Numbskull for 40
    dollars+ tax I passed. If
BA Speedway makes it to western Wisconsin maybe
    I would buy 1 bottle.

Not sure how BA SS or BA Old Numbskull would hit any liquor store shelves. Its brewery only not proxy pickup. Probably it is from a trade so the markup would reflect on average how much extra you would invest if you traded for the beer yourself. Seems expensive only if you don't know how much trading costs.
