They started it right after the accident at Stone, for safety reasons. Since I've seen babies in there since then, I can assume they have either relaxed that ban for non-walking children (that cannot get into the brewery) or that they've addressed those safety concerns.

Children of all ages are allowed in the tasting room.

Uh, SD is pretty awful in terms of sours. We definitely could use a LOT more local sour producers, and no, Lost Abbey doesn't make nearly enough sours.

I was kind of thinking the same thing. SD has hardly reached sour saturation or sour fatigue. It may be a "fad" or "trend" in theory, but it's not exactly like the market is FLOODED with shitty sours, and we have to wade through them all to find good ones.

Damn. I was hoping this thread was going to be about opening up their Facebook page to the public.

Baffles me that some breweries lock out so many costumers.

And it's a super easy fix. Make the page "public" AND don't put an age restriction on the page. You don't need one., and the only way FB can verify age is to log in.

Are sours really a fad when they've been brewed for hundreds of years? And just because you dislike a style, you shouldn't be ignorant of the concept of "plenty".

I just wish more breweries would just release a friggin' six pack.

There is exactly 1 brewery that is regularly putting out sours right now in SD – 1 in 85 is a very odd definition of “plenty”.

I agree though I'll take 4-packs over bombers any day.

Let's say for the sake of argument there were "plenty" of sours being brewed by SD brewers, if they were good and the market was saturated with them, what would be the problem? Too much good beer to drink? Eventually only the best would survive. I guess I don't see the problem, unless you absolutely detest sours.

A decade ago craft beer as a whole was in an entirely different place, so I fail to see your argument here. And sours are hardly "all over the place", and the majority of sours which are around are not locally brewed.

It's sort of amusing how this thing went off on a tangent.

ignorant comments tend to do that.

If you don't like sours the simple solution is not to buy them. I don't care for black ipas (are they a fad?) but I certainly wouldn't suggest that breweries stop making them....I just don't buy them. Breweries tend to brew what consumers prefer to purchase. Plenty of people love sours. I would love to see Alesmith put out some sours. The SD beer scene is certainly lacking in the sour department.

That's actually an interesting comment w.r.t. Alesmith. DIPA, TIPA, maybe some hop variation?

I don't think he missed it; I think he, rightly, doesn't see the correlation. You say you "didn't mean just SD, [but you] meant more in general," yet you go on to say, "lost abbey makes enough sour beers to keep San Diego in good supply." Do you not see the disconnect here?

I am also very chagrined to see how many teary-eyed costumed folks are prevented from entering breweries. Something must really be done about that.

Unfortunately, they're not keeping the old space. They're apparently planning to sell it as-is as a functioning brewery (which I assume means we're talking all new equipment in the new space).

I'm interested if they're going to sell it to an upstart, or some other brewery in town is going to pick up the space.

4-pks or 6-pks - just as long as they move away from bombers on their year-round releases!
