I moved here to Florida about 5 months ago and before I moved I went to the brewery in CA and was very disappointed with Alesmith because they would not sell me a single bottle of BA speedway stout....even though there was an ENTIRE pallet of the beer sitting 20ft from the bar. I did buy a BA Wee Heavy and didn't realize they charged me $25 for it until I had left....I bought a bunch of stuff and had a tab. Anyway curious what the speedway stout costs on the shelf in the places that are in the distro. I have a friend that is willing to send me some but I am still kind of pissed they wouldn't sell me a bottle and sure don't want to do a $4$ trade if speedway is $20 or higher

It was between $33 and $40 on the shelf in WI. From what I've read, it is $30 at the brewery.

And yeah, I agree those prices are a bit ridiculous, and others must agree as well, it sat at some places for a couple months at the $40 price.

What was their justification for not selling the BA Speedway to you?

Aside from the BA Speedway and Wee Heavy (which are around $37), their stuff ranges from around $6-$13 in NC.

A single pallet is a very small amount of beer. They probably already promised that beer to their distributor. They may even have yielded less than they had promised. In reality, they had none in stock to sell to you even though it looked like they did.

Don't be pissed at AleSmith. They would have taken your money if they could.

There's a lot of confusion in this thread.

BA Speedway is almost always allocated through online sales. Those bottles you saw on the pallet were most likely already sold. I believe it runs about $30 and does not see legal distribution.

The regular Speedway runs $12-15 and does see distro.

The barrel aged version? Regular Speedway is around $12 here.

BA Speedway did show up in a couple of local bottle shops this past year. Maybe the bottle shops ordered them online?

Ok, no... the regular. All I read was 'Speedway' in the above responses, didn't see the 'BA' in front of it. Haven't tried the barrel-aged but sounds great, and I can see that being way more expensive. Sorry for the confusion.

Alesmith does not ship online orders, so it must have been done through a trade or proxy.

They're not selling you the BA Speedway because they've already been sold online. They do VERY small batches with different variations and do online orders. If you don't order online you're not gonna get any.

And it's worth getting a bottle...one of the best BA's out there.

Agree with Hendrick24. The BA Speedway and Wee Heavy were each $38 back in WI. I can't for the life of me remember the prices on the rest of their lineup though. I want to say that regular Speedway was $12 or $13.

BA Speedway has been on the shelves here in WI a couple of times over the past year, and usually sells reasonably quickly. The other regular Alesmith BA versions are also available here, but move much more slowly. All are $36-40/bottle.

    Non-BA Alesmith is $10-12 here.

This was true until early 2014, the batch of BA Speedway bottled in late 2013 was sent by Alesmith into very limited distro, seemed to mostly go to WI and I heard Washington state got some as well, not sure if it went anywhere else.

Speedway is always around $30 and you normally have to but it through an online site. Very rarely is it sold directly to customers, except on draft. I've seen them in local SD shops for $40 and they still move quick. You'll NEVER see a BA speedway for $20. On the other hand, regular speedway is usually less than $15.

I paid $40 for a bottle of Speedway Stout, here in Sydney, Australia.
