I am not a big pumpkin beer fan and it may have been a few years since I last tasted a pumpkin beer, but I have really enjoyed some barrel-aged pumpkin beers over the years and noticed that Alewerks is releasing three variants of its Imperial Pumpkin next weekend. I have never been to Alewerks and am not sure whether I will make the trip (or maybe just try to set up a trade) but wanted to get some information before making a decision.

Anybody have some insights into a release at Alewerks? I note that the beers will be available at both breweries so maybe one location is a better bet for just picking up bottles rather than hanging around?

Release frenzy has died down completely in North Carolina, particularly for barrel-aged beers (Olde Hickory's recent BA release had only about 30 people in line compared to the 100s you used to see a while back), but I wasn't sure what the scene is like in tidewater area.

I work at another brewery here in Williamsburg and can tell you that releases are generally pretty chill in comparison to other areas. This is especially true since COVID began.

Should be pretty relaxing release. If you enjoy shopping or have a significant other who loves shopping then make a day of it at the Outlets and take a break at the location there. It’s a pretty chill spot and very convenient though the original spot is basically across the street. And don’t miss Precarious Beer Project if looking for other stops in the area.

Thanks for the Precarious shoutout! @brentk56 if you are going to hit up Precarious or Amber Ox while in town please let me know. Would love to buy you a beer and meet another person from BA.

Talked to a gentleman who worked there and he mentioned it usually lasts for a couple of days. The weekends here have gotten busier over the past few months and would recommend planning ahead of staying overnight.

I don't recall seeing details of what the variants would be unless I missed it but was included in their newsletter email today. Definitely love the other two variants are different barrels in addition to the bourbon and not just throwing extra adjuncts into it.

Rum barrel Imperial combines the pumpkiny goodness with toasted sugars and molasses that brought to the forefront. The rum barrels lend a mild oak nuance and intertwin rum complexities with the spice profile of the pumpkin beer for the ultimate fall indulgence.

Charred oak barrels give rye whiskey Imperial Pumpkin a smooth vanilla-oak beginning but then end with an earthy zestiness that fits right at home with the season.

Any mention of distribution to NoVA?

They mentioned in several posts on both fb and ig that all three are "taproom exclusive" so guessing it won't make it out.
