Hello! I have a protocol question. I had a trade with a fellow BA member-I sent my package, it arrived. He sent his, and when I checked the tracking today I received this message "Your package was damaged in transit. All merchandise discarded." This is the first time this has happened to me in a trade. How have you handled it? Suck it up as a loss? Demand he send again with the exact same beers? Come to a happy medium? Any and all (respectful) answers and advice appreciated!

Typically, sender should try to make it right with beers of equal caliber or whatever you two agree on as being satisfactory. Its a shitty thing to happen but its a risk we all take shipping beer.

I sent a box and one bottle broke. Fed ex sent the other bottles back. I ended up trading a bigger bottle to get the one that broke again so I could stay true to the original trade.

If you haven't, I'd recommend reaching out to your trade partner. Let him know of the exception just in case he hasn't seen it. I'm positive it'll work out in the end so long as you two communicate well.

His responsibility until the box gets to you. Send him a message and I would think he would make it right.

That is all on him. You both will have to work together though to find a solution. These things happen so rarely, but when they do we have to step up and work it out, together.

It's not like he threw the package off a bridge, but the responsibility certainly resides on the far side of the table.

it is on the shipper to get the box to you. He owes you a replacement box.

This too. Burden is on shipper in this case. Reason being he may have packed the box perfectly, maybe not and that could have lead to the box being discarded. This is the risk you take as shipper.

I've had this happen to me before. I sent a package (anyone who's received a box of mind knows I don't take packing lightly) that got damaged in transit and all the contents were discarded (I think this was with UPS, but I've since started using fedex as they are cheaper anyways). Situation sucked, but I sent a new package right away for the EXACT contents of the box. If that can't be obtained again, it should always be of the same caliber, imo.

The only exception to what everyone has sent is I've encountered a person that I've shipped to having their address flagged by FedEx. I know my boxes were perfectly sent in styro shippers. First box was destroyed second was sent back to me nothing broken and the box not even opened. While I doubt that was the case referenced above it does go to show you that it's not 100% black and white.

Our resolution was for him to supply a UPS label to cover shipping since I had shipped twice already and have it sent to a friend's house.

Thanks for all the feedback! Trader has agreed to send again although he has to wait until April as he is going to attempt to obtain the original beers. The shipment was at the facility ten minutes from my house when it happened. Truly a freak accident. Trader had excellent feedback so I assume packaging was appropriate.
