Is allagash still making the dubbel? Or have they just backed down on production levels of it? I have been looking for it recently and haven't been seeing it which surprised me - Lots of white and tripel out there though....
Now that I think of it, last time I saw Dubbel was more than 6 months ago. You may be on to something.
Yeah, this is a bummer - I hate to see Allagash discontinue a classic, and one that believe it or not, I have yet to "tick" on BA even though I've probably had it multiple times - so I really do need to find a bottle to enjoy the hell out of it for one last time.
The Dubble is still listed on their website, so I did a quick Google search to try to find confirmation of this. The result: http://theaposition.com/tombedell/golf/lifestyle/7290/tap-beer-of-the-week-allagash-tripel Agree it's a bummer, but at some point, someone needs to buy the beer. And honestly, if I had to choose one Allagash beer to lose, Dubble would be the one.
arrrrgh that sucks..... It's my own fault for buying so many hoppy beers all the time. Been trying to change that but I guess it's too late to save the Dubbel. It was def one of my favorite of Allagash, will have to pick up a dusty bottle if I come across one.
Can't disagree, when I thought of going to try to find one I started thinking that the last dubble I had. It was a couple years ago - a Goose Island Pere Jacques Dubble that I think was similarly discontinued and only bought it for that reason; I generally don't buy GI anymore unless it starts with BC or has a lady's name and is heavily discounted... The only other dubble I have is in my extensive inventory of cellar beers - so it's a very underrepresented style for me, and I guess lots of others.
"No one makes a good amber/brown/dubbel/esb/whatever, what gives?!" * X brewery makes a good amber/brown/dubbel/esb/whatever * "Huh, look at that! X brewery made an amber/brown/dubbel/esb/whatever. Cool!" * Buys 4 pack of 16oz IPA cans* Round and round we go.
Just left the brewery, plenty for sale in the cooler. Didn’t notice this thread prior, otherwise I would have asked about it,
I thought this was the case when I was up there last week but I didn't look at the cooler closely enough...sounds like a "slow burn"...
The fact that they were shipping out several-month old bottles that then sat on shelves for who-knows-how-long explains exactly why I stopped buying the Dubbel. Every time I'd buy one, it was ALWAYS oxidized and tasted like a yeasty rubber band. I thought it was an issue with the caps, but maybe it was more than that.
Well. I just got back from Allagash, and they had a huge shelf full of Dubbel. I bought a bottle. Will drink. Will report back.
I've been on the hunt for 12 oz. bottles of Dubbel since this post came out and haven't seen any, but did see a few bombers at Marty's in Allston so I'm betting there are a few more out there, in addition to those mentioned at the brewery where I might pick one up for posterity's sake, not to mention just damn good dubbel taste.
My wife saw a bunch of 750's at Market Basket in Salem, NH. She grabbed 7, but said there are a few more left.
