Hi. I just received a bottle of Allagash Four from a friend. He had received it as a gift sometime ago but didn't want it. Wondering how to tell when it was bottled and if this beer is good with some age on it. Thanks!

Thank you. I will check on the bottom. It is a bottle with gold letters printed on it.

Nice! I'd be curious to know whether there is a date on a bottle this old. My understanding is a date on a bottom is a relatively new feature and there was no way to tell the exact date of a bottle with the old label. They were bottled in 2004, 2005, and 2006. And starting with 2007 (batch #11) they switched to the paper labels.

Don't know what to say. I checked several different bottles at the store today and none of them had what might've been a Julian date code (according to "Fresh Beer Only" website).

I don't know about the dating, but I've never had a quad that wasn't good with some age on it. There's definitely a "too old" point in time, but less than 5 years I wouldn't worry much...
