I seem to remember sometime last year on the old forums that Allagash was going to pull out of Texas temporarily, but maybe come back later. I recently picked up a 750ml of their Dubbel, and was wondering if they were back, or if it has just been sitting around that long. Any word?

I've seen a few almost 3 year old Dubbels still hanging around in the Austin area. Could be part of the reason they're pulling out of Texas...

Ya it is all old stock. Have heard many reasons for their pull out outside of not being able to supply the state with stock. Lets hope they are back soon.

Their Dubbel and Tripel were never "hot items". Good beer yes, but not sought after by all the head hunters in Texas that only buy limited release items. That's the reason that is still around. They pulled out because they could not supply the state with White, their volume item. Once that became an issue, it really didn't make sense for them to just keep shipping 1/2 pallets of their random limited release items. I sure miss them, hope they are back soon.

Thanks for the responses. I went ahead and cracked it last night and reviewed it here:

I got the bottle at the Gabriel's outlet in San Marcos. The beer guy there claimed that he could order more from the distributor. I guess they're just sitting on them. Anyway, good stuff, not great. I hope they can make it back into Texas.

Just wondering if anyone has ever heard of a brewer pull out of TX that has come back? It seems to me that with the number of markets they pulled out of that they would come back to Texas last, if for no other reason than the additional cost outlier.

Hopefully Allagash follows suit. And soon.

I had Confluence a couple weeks ago on tap and I went right back for seconds and thirds. Was really sad to know that at least short term I wouldn't get an easy chance at it.

I wouldn't say that Dogfish Head pulled out, but things were pretty lean here until this year. We only got a few of the 750s and not enough of the seasonals. They have definitely been treating us better this year by sending most major releases. I had heard rumors of DFH pulling out of TX about 2 years ago when it was leanest. Luckily that never happened.

The folks at Doghead, Sam in particular, have said they love our state and have never thought about pulling out. We make them a healthy chunk of their change, so they are staying indefinitely.

I think a lot of the problem with getting DFH beers in the last year or so has had to do with their TV show the Discovery Channel. That is free advertising to potentially millions of people, so the demand is naturally going to increase. I know as soon as the show debuted, I heard from a lot of local beer store owners that they had issues getting their beers. Now that the show has been off the air for a while, the demand has likely dropped and the beers are easier to get.

Be glad you're not in Denver. Apparently DFH pulled all of the six packs and most four packs. I don't know if that ever got resolved, but when I went to GABF last year the locals were all bitching.

While I'm not the biggest fan of DFH, I do drink a lot of their beers and I would love to see some (better) distribution of 120, Olde School, and Bitches Brew. Between Allagash and DFH you can cover a lot of styles of beer well with plenty of one off unique's to boot. Again sad to see one leave just as I was getting into their primary style, I don't know what I'd do if we lost both.

Digging up an old thread. If Allagash re-entered the Texas market, and their labels were unchanged, would they need to get their labels approved?

Doubtfully. When you pull out, you really aren't doing anything except for not sending beer down. They are already approved through TABC and if the labels were the same, they could still send them. If they changed their labels, they wouldn't need to reapply for the brewery to come in - just to send new labels in for approval.

At least that is my understanding. They would probably need to rework distribution agreements though.

Allagash has said a couple times they will be back to Texas. They are expanding currently or just recently did, don't remember. But I hope they weren't just blowing smoke cause I sure do miss them.

Before everyone gets hot and bothered at the thought of Allagash being back in Texas... theses are cellared vintage kegs, not newly delivered product.

Talked to the owner of Allagash a month ago. They have no plans to reenter the Texas market at this point. Local distribution reps can go around sharing whatever opinion they want to, but that's straight from the horse's mouth.

    And it's a damn shame.
