We're going to be in the Allentown vicinity(actually Coopersburg) in September for only a day. A Sunday, no less. Are there any good brewpubs to grab dinner within the area? Don't want to drive more than an hour if we don't have to. Any must stop places on the way back to Ohio? Probably take 80 West back home. Thanks...
Yeah, Allentown and Bethlehem Brew Works are reallly your only choices without driving down closer to Philly. If you head down 309 South, the first two you'd hit are Iron Hill in North Wales (35 mins), and then Forest and Main in Ambler (40 mins). Forest and Main's beers are awesome if you like English and Belgian styles, and their food is a small menu of gastropub food.
I would recommend Round Guys in Lansdale. Allentown brew works has solid offerings and good food, but if I was going to be in Cooperburg for only one day I would probably go to Round Guys, then go to Pizza Pub or blue dog afterwards. I love iron hill, but prefer some of the other locations over north wales.
Yeah if the OP is only looking for sandwiches, then I would definitely recommend Round Guys too. That'd be about 10 mins closer.
I would stop in at Bethlehem Brew Works for a beer, and then go do dinner down the road at 'The Mint'. Very good food and drink, and bottle shop shopping next door at Abe's.
If time allows, check out The Spinnerstown Hotel, a little bit west of Quakertown. They are remodeling right now (adding a bottle shop area) and the taps are a little limited, but if the are done by September they usually have a solid tap line up plus bottles and the food has always been good. http://www.spinnerstownhotel.com/
Weyerbacher is nearby also in Easton. I haven't been to their brewery but I've heard good things about visiting.
Unfortunately they don't operate a bar or have any food. You can only taste samples, and buy beer to go. http://weyerbacher.com/visitors-center/

This is all great information. Not sure what we will manage to check out, but it will be one or more mentioned. Thanks guys. -d
Those just listed above a quite a ride from coopersburg as they are 25-45 mins north of Allentown. As said before Round Guys, Prizm in Lansdale, free will is around that area as well if I'm not mistaken. Brew works beers are good and is prob the best food out of the places around here.
You could make an easy day of beer drinking/sampling with Allentown Brewworrks, Free Will Brewing (Perkasie), Round Guys (Lansdale), Prism (North Wales), and Iron Hill (North Wales). All are easy to access from I-476/Rt-309. Only Free Will is not a pub, so you could grab burgers/sandwiches at any of the places, but for a more up-scale meal I would recommend Iron Hill or go to Spinnerstown Hotel for really good food and drafts. And bring a DD... Edit to add the Beer Mapping Project map for the Philadelphia Area: http://beermapping.com/maps/citymaps.php?m=philly#lat=undefined&lng=undefined&z=7
There's also Funk Brewing in Emmaus, like 15 min west of Allentown. New spot, really good rep already. https://www.facebook.com/FunkBrewing
Not a brewpub, but Strange Brew Tavern is only 10 minutes from Coopersburg. They usually have a solid taplist, nice bottle selection, and good food. Check them out: http://www.beermenus.com/places/7003-strange-brew-tavern . I would also recommend Mint for food but it is a little further away.
I don't think their taproom is open yet. Latest from June 20 on the FB page says "getting close" and their website doesn't have hours or live copy for the taproom page.
