I'll be in San Diego next week on business and I'd like to grab a few selections from Alpine to ship back. Are their bombers readily available? Aside from those that are pretty well known, anything else I should check out while in town?
For Alpine, the only place it's readily available is the brewery itself. Here's their live cam: http://brewerycam1.alpinebrewing.com/view/viewer_index.shtml?id=97 For other SD breweries, check the front page of the Pacific forum. There's at least two "What to do in SD" threads in progress right now.
At least on your average day you can at least walk away with bottles of at least 2 of the big 3 (Pure Hoppiness, Duet, Nelson). There's always the sad times when you can't but hasn't happened on days that I've visited. All 3 are currently available for sale as of their Facebook post two days ago, too.
Somebody isn't up on the latest news. As of last week, Green Flash is now filling Alpine growlers at its brewery. Yes, it is the Green Flash Alpine and not the Alpine Alpine, but that's a different issue entirely. LOL
Thankfully bottles are still Alpine Alpine. Edit: And the non-regular beers are still Alpine kegs. But could you imagine a keg of GF Great. That would be weird.
You can get Duet, Nelson, and Pure Hoppiness bombers at Bottlecraft in North Park or Little Italy as of today. Also, a stop into Green Flash and a handful of other liquor stores can get you some bombers without the trip to Alpine. Although, as of Monday they still had Bad Boy on draft in their pub, and that is my favorite San Diego IPA for sure.
Pro Tip: Buy whatever bottles/growlers you can at Alpine Beer Co. then hit up the 2 or 3 liquor stores in Alpine on the way back to the Freeway. Be sure and ask if they have any Alpine in the back if you don't see any out. I doubled my bottle haul this way last time.
