It didn't include the word "infected" but did say that barrel-aged beers are highly profitable...

So what's the joke, that I'd bring up Craftsman, or that you're unaware of them?

Ha-when I proposed this very thing several months ago, I was basically body-slammed by Alpine fanboys who wouldn't even entertain the possibility. You really think it's coincidence that for the last several months, at least one of the Big Three is missing from the rotation every week?

So, what's the update on Green Flash brewing their stuff?

I don't think you were body slammed; I think people just didn't think it made a lot of financial sense. But then again, there are a lot of things up in Alpine that don't make sense.

Funny, considering BAs frequently cite barrel aging as a valid excuse to charge a massive premium. Pat is apparently shrewder than I gave him credit for.

    Only semi related....

This was the second pour from a bottle of Duet I bought on Sunday. There were chunks of grain of whole leaf hop matter which is ridiculous. I was pretty bummed to say the least...

I found the same thing in all 3 of my Duet bottles from this weekend, very large chunks of hop leaves

I see my second bottle has the same issue and I'll have to try pouring it a little more carefully. I dumped the glass full in the pic so it's a waste of half a bottle. A bummer when you are only allowed to get two and then it ends up you can't (or don't want to) drink more than 14oz of it.

It's not ideal to have visible particles of any sort swimming around in your beer, hops or otherwise. So yeah, worth being bummed about it -- especially from Alpine.

Using Craftsman as a comparison to Alpine's situtation. I lived in Pasadena and understand Craftsman is small, I just don't see a huge outpouring of requests for their products like Alpine's.

Limiting supply to charge more is an idea. Except they aren't charging more for their beer.

Sort of shoots down that theory.

As far as floaties in the beer...ever had Heady? That shit is a murky mess.

I figure I will wait until the 16 ounce screw top cans of Alpine Nelson made in Minnesota come out before I start thinking about the kegs from Green Flash.

It may not be at the same volume, but that's also because there's more cross-pollination of San Diego beers into L.A. than there is for L.A. beers into San Diego (so you've got a wider group who've had/are familiar with SD beers). A quick look at this thread shows there's plenty of demand for Craftsman bottles/cans that's gone unmet.

Heady is a great beer, but I think it's appearance is it's biggest downfall. Also we all know Duet should not have a 1/4 inch of sediment at the bottom of a glass filled with snowflakes.

I expect that from Heady, but not Duet, especially huge chunks of hops.

Maybe Alpine should start canning and put "Drink from the can!" like Heady does. That way nobody will be able to tell.

Seriously? Drain pour because of some floaties? Whole leaf hop floaties! Get the fuck out of here.

I'd say whole leaf hops goes beyond "floaties." Gotta love Alpine QC.

Allowed? Three is the bottle limit (as of last Saturday anyway). I will hate life if they lower the limits again. Good looking out though, I will pour the Duet's carefully.

    LOL.

That was more of a tongue in cheek commentary that maybe Heady says to do that because the beer itself is so ugly.

I was only allowed to by two but maybe because it was in the pub? They had about 8 bottles of Nelson when I sat down and I just figured they would stock more if they sold out...well that didn't happen, so I left with just 2 bottles of Duet.

Your saying that Alpine said something was done and then didn't happen? Surely you jest. Green flash would be nuts to deal with those guys at Alpine. But damn Alpine beer is damn near perfect.
